Hi guys, just had my 360 spider 2004 fixed last week, it had a misfire and they found that injector 6 was getting the wrong signal but if they put a noide light on it while running it worked fine, they ended up putting a diode on injector 6 and all fixed, no miss no cel.. Just wondering if anyone know the actual cause or how to repair it without the diode? They did try to change the left and right hand computer and it was the same, is there a diode pack somewhere for the injectors ? Any help would be great ( the car is fine but I would like to know the real problem)

    Thanks

Did they try replacing the injector, or at least swapping it with another? Seems like the first place to start...

Interesting... An injector is just a solenoid coil. In a typical electronic circuit, a diode is connected in reverse bias across a solenoid coil when powered by DC voltage. The purpose of the diode is to protect other electronic components in the circuitry from inductive (or kick-back) voltage that occurs when DC voltage to the coil is de-energized. I would think that there are protection circuitry already built into the ECUs.

In my opinion, using a noid light will only tell you that there is sufficient voltage present on the injector connector and and that the wiring is OK. But it doesn't tell you if there is sufficient current available to drive the injector to its operating specification.

I suspect that the ECU is defective, but you stated that the mechanic has already swapped ECUs to eliminate that possibility. Puzzling to say the least.

In that case, I don't see how adding the diode fixed this originally. Was the diode installed reverse biased as a parallel flyback didode, or was it added in series? Not that it matters at this point, just curious.
