I asked Supercar driver if they could post video of all the runs. They indicated that they had only filmed one complete run, but had data for all of them. Perhaps someone could get the video from the cars' side cameras as they race down the runway.

Just as an FYI Persia existed from 550 BC until 1935 when it was renamed Iran. So please excuse some Iranians pride in their rich culture. Also, Iraq is not Persia therefore Iraqis never call themselves Persian. Iraq's language is Arabic, Iran's is Farsi. Feel free to use Wikipedia next time before......

A bit off-topic perhaps but I can vouch for what you say. I'm obviously not of Middle Eastern extraction but all the people from Iran that I knew or have befriended call themselves Persian, never Iranian.

They also make a strong distinction that as Persians, they are not Arabs. They are also not necessarily Muslims. A quick history lesson of Persia and Islam will offer clear explanation.

This seems very childish and unprofessional behavior from car manufacturer in regard of public statement...

K-segg better to prove something, instead of bragging on the internet. They waited for so many years before going to any track, let alone the Ring... Few days after the speed limits were announced, they started to cry, that their attempt there, was screwed up...

So let me get this straight, Iranians are Persians and Persians are not necessarily muslims, but in Iran the religious division goes like this muslims 99.4%, Christians 0.2% Other 0.6%.
So where are the persians? in the 0.6%?

mmm but we all had at least 3 Go-pros on each car, for each run, I had one on my helmet......

If and when they choose to show the footage from these, this will show that 918 pulled away 1st on every run all the way to the marker point, as can been seen from the data.

The video that they are showing is from the Jumped run, in which I did not use LC or HL mode, as such was not the 918s quickest run.

Ahhh, now it makes sense. Apparently you get your history from fictional children's cartoons. Your parents must be so proud. Carry on then.

Studies show smarter ppl are more sarcastic themselves and understand sarcasm better. No need to be offended. Everyone is so sensitive nowadays it's going to be our downfall as a society.

The Pagani outcome truly took me by surprise. They blew every car out of the water on the Top Gear board. I know that car had modified slicks but still, surprising. The Aventador SV would have been much closer than either the Bug or the Pagani in the lap times. Perhaps they should have included that instead of the Pagani...

My apologies if I misinterpreted the sarcasm, but insensitivity, lack of knowledge and biggatory Have caused far more damage to our society.

Sorry for going off topic. Great debate. Having driven the 918 and the P1, I can see why people are so passionate about their purchases. They are both incredible machines. Now if I can only trade in my magic carpet and get a shot at the La Ferrari. ;)

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Agree. We must consider also a a vast number of variables. And very often the truth is not behind the "press" cars.

As said above. What about variables of production. It's known that press cars (usually used for official press testing) there are a lot of effort and care behind any detail to achieve the best result as possible. This is not the case during the production units. Cars take on the production lines are just depending by the production variables. So, is it possible to find cars regularily slower than official cars used for press. There is the variable of the engine broken-in and the weather also to consider. This last is very important comparing modern turbocharged cars versus N/A cars in the case of low air pressure conditions because it's known turbocharged cars are able to compensate.
There is also a variable of turbocharged system to consider versus N/A engines. Not for last, these is also the modality of turbocharged homologation that can be different than N/A engines. It's known that exaclty the same power on the chart may have a veriable on road bacause of the modality of testing the cooling on turbocharged engines. So I should not wander that P1 can be regularily more powerful than claimed versus a LF that may be down of power in some cases.

I don't see the Swedes calling themselves Vikings or the Greeks, Spartans eheh. I only questioned why Iranian people refer to themselves as persian and not, well Iranians. Its curious that's all and it must have a reason. Personally if I was Iranian I would prefer that people remember my homeland as one of the wonders or the World (in ancient times) then the country it is today so I can relate.

Still, ease up or I WILL call PC Principal and i'm sure you don't want that.

About these amazing cars well....I only wish I had a genie eheh ;)

That makes the most sense given the consistent other data out there visible for all to see.

At this price point, and for modern cars (not cars 15+ years old) you should not expect a lot of variability.

Certainly, you should not find the variability on the "downside" of performance, absent some extreme temps or extreme altitudes (or obviously, extreme differences in track surface).

Porsche shows some variability in their cars vs. mfr claims, but always to the positive side, not massive underperformance.

Silly arguments against the Chris Harris test.

You don't need the factory driver, you need a top tier driver, provided with equal experience (or sufficient experience) across the three cars.

If you get a factory driver for each car, you are going to introduce a new and larger variable into the mix, the ability of the driver.

I think the main flaw in the Chris Harris test is that Chris, good as he is as a journalist, is not a truly top tier driver. The Stig on Top Gear, had the benefit of anonymity coupled with very high level track experience, as well as intimate familiarity with that one circuit.

I think the real information the initial tests have shown is that all-round, the 918 is most capable on most tracks, and on some tracks (higher speed tracks) the P1 can take it. The LaF while perhaps the most enjoyable all-round, seems to lag the 918 consistently, and is perhaps a bit more similar to the P1 in capabilities, but is a little more brutal and less precise (with the final variable of perhaps more variance in the cars themselves?)

Seems to be a VW family trait. Huracan, 918, 991 TTS all beats their manufacturer reported times and by healthy margins. It's been proven in mag tests AND in real life.

I think it's good strategy. Less people gunning for the 918 if Porsche quotes 19.9s to 300 kph. When it runs 18.5s everyone is blown away. When Ferrari quotes under 15s to 300 kph for LaF and it runs 17.5 everyone is disappointed. It's still a second faster than the Porsche.

I always tell my employees, under promise and over deliver, not the other way around. The hype of over promising is more fleeting than excellent results. VW brand has figured this out.

About the cars we can all agree that Porsche as always is kicking ass. Ferrari has really to step up their game....

I'm not sure of this. The main example is the result of the F12 on dynos and on road. Some press cars were regulary faster than customer cars being these press cars just above the claimed power (I can list you many other examples).

What I'm really sure is that modern transmissions are "bad business" even for the smallest variable. Modern trasmissions are able to put perfectly down on road all the potential of the car, nowadays as never before. This is because of the research behind the negative losses over the fact of high quality of the efficency of the gearboxes.
