Future Mondial owner

I found a car dealer in Texas that had it. No photos yet once I receive it I will be doing a lot of before and after photos.

 

Lots of pics on eBay. Nice to see someone save that one. Rare color and at that price point I'd feel free to even do some custom touches to personal liking. Have fun

 

It's the green Mondial 8 that was on ebay. The interior looks really really bad for the miles (and for the years for that matter) as does the engine bay so I hope for your sake all it needs is cosmetics. Don't drive it til you know the belts are good ... a guy in TX found that out the hard way a few months back and is now trying to sell his coupe with a blown up motor

I hope it's only interior work needed.

There is a place in California ( I think?) that sells new leather seat covers. Do a search and the name should pop up

Those tires are TRX...let's hope they are fairly new.

Looks cool in the green. Gotta get an OEM steering wheel and shift knob on there when you redo the interior! I'm also all for keeping the original wheels and putting new TRX's on. Pricey but unless you start every drive with a burnout they'll last a while and IMO they're the only tires that look 100% right in the car.

Yep that's the one, I called and was asking questions about service history etcetera and they informed me it was a consignment deal so I made an offer.

 

Yeah the interior is pretty bad but easily repairable. The engine bay is rough also, but again elbow grease and a little bit of time. I am already shopping for belts and bearings to swap everything out as soon as it gets here. Trust me lots of before and after pictures.
Oh and I spoke with the guy in Texas, I think he had some bad information from the seller stating the belts had been replaced. He has it in the shop repairing it right now. I got really excited when I first seen this one, the green really had me, not a common color from what I have seen, Love the red with the biscuit interior but I love the green and black interior.
Looks like it will cost about $200 to do the belts and tensioner pulleys. I also have read somewhere the belt is a Dayco belt, if it is then it will be a lot cheaper to source out, the replacement bearings are looking like they are sealed, also easy to source out.
I should mention, run a maintenance department for a rail car company so I have many places to source parts for exact replacements if not better.

 

Look closely, it is a Nardi Torino steering wheel, maybe not a beautiful as the example you have posted but,

Right you are. I'm just a sucker for big "old time" wood wheels. And I've always thought of the black R1/23/45 Ferrari shifter knobs as iconic parts of the car. But you and Wade are right, someone paid good money to switch them out at some point.

OK getting closer to actually getting the car and I know I am going to need tires, what are my options given the stock size is 240/55 VR390

 

Metric TRX's are about your only choice.

About $500 each, maybe less if you catch a sale.

You can swap to 16" wheels and have more choices, but you have to consider the price of the wheels into the equation.

Most owners consider the TRX technology to be very dated and that the cars handle much better with newer tech tires.

I vote for keeping the trx's on there, but Campagnolo makes a 16" wheel that mirrors the appearance of the original wheel pretty well, and affords you more tire options. But as stated above you have to keep the cost of the new wheels in mind.

Check Superformance out. I think they have the Campagnolo's and they definitely stock the TRX tires.

I think there are multiple threads here on the Mondial section where guys discuss the different 16" tire options.

 

IMO at minimum I'd go 16" wheels and have more tire options now and the future. If you are going to do a nut and bolt oem resto on this car its going to be long and $.

Find yourself a nice set of used 360 wheels or 348 wheels (or refinish a set) and you'll still be money ahead (with tires) vs buying $2K worth of metric tires alone. Most likely the current wheels need some attention (paint) so why spend the $ on refinishing the oem wheels and then metric tires when a more modern set of wheels/tires will do wonders for the car.

360 starfish wheels came on my 348 when I bought it. Had then sand blasted ($100). Bought about $150 in DuPont multi stage paint, clear, prime supplies etc, painted myself. New Yokahama S drive tires for $250 each or less... I've got at most $1300 into perfectly refinished wheels and brand new tires. If you have to buy a set you can get them for $1k and under so all in give or take $2500 for updated wheels and tires or $2k for just metric tires....

It begins ... somehow Ferrari even managed to engineer matters so that the tyres are hellishly expensive and they don't even sell tyres.

 

Actually it wasnt just Ferrari the lowly Ford Mustang also suffers from this metric mess!

Fast BMWs, Renaults, Fords etc etc had the magic metrix. It was like VHS and Betamax. Try to get some Betamx tapes these days but it was the better quality
