Perhaps this was the LP400 I saw in March, disassembled, red with green underneath. In that state it looked like any other rough old car requiring serious attention and hard to understand the price!

Yes I am sure now - I can see the green paint on the sidelight surrounds and alongside the radiators during the speeded up part of the video...

 

This is production Countach n°5 (VIN #1120010), completed on July 5th 1974... and delivered three weeks later on July 26th to Achilli Motors for Mr. Gianfranco Innocenti.

It was originally painted 'Verde Medio' with 'Senape' interior, then repainted (during those 3 weeks between completion and delivery, I guess) in 'Rosso Cina' with 'Nero' interior.

Instead of keeping/restoring this car with its unique 'Rosso Cina' (the only one of the whole LP400 production!!) as it was when delivered new, they choose to repaint it Verde Medio now... Why not...

Started my QV today for the first time in about 5 months, it backfired when I turned it off. Tried it a second time and backfired again after turning ignition off, this has never happened before. Any ideas on the cause and fix ?

 

Bad gas?

 

I don't think so, I filled it with fresh gas last time I drove it. The 2nd time it happened there were 2 faint popping sounds and sounded like it was igniting right in the muffler. Maybe running rich ??? It took longer than usual to start, I had to crank it for about 20 seconds before it fired. Maybe loaded up with fuel. It never took that long to start before.

 

My first guess would be a weak battery. You spun it slow enough to load it up. Let it air out, charge the battery & try again. The plugs might now be fouled, but I would try a hot battery first.

 

The battery was dead and I had to jump it with a jump box so what your saying may be right on. Thanks for the help guys.

I learned the battery lesson on my Brother's Viper. It would turn over fairly fast. Fast enough that I didn't suspect it. The engine had spark & there was plenty of gas. Eventually we checked the battery and it was right at 12 volts. Bingo. Normally you would think 12 volts, for a 12 volt system would do it, but on that car it would not. And you could crank it forever. Around 12.6 volts or a little more is what a Viper (or his anyways) has to have to start. After charging up the battery, it started normally. He now keeps the car on a battery tender. I searched you tube for a quick video on how to check the battery. Sure, there could be other problems, but I would rule out the easy ones first.

Apart from the battery, your car has not been started or run for 5 months. Did you have a fuel stabiliser additive in the tank? I know you mentioned you filled with fresh but fuel gums over time. Suggest you put in some carb or FI cleaner and take it for a good run if you can.

 

My QV DD has not had a radio fitted since I removed the nasty Sony unit on purchase. After some time, I tracked down an Alpine 7902 CD head unit. Along with 2 original adverts featuring a Red CT, around the 1986 / 87 period.

Being a bit of a plank, I did not realise that this head unit had no in-built amplification. I then spent some time tracking down period Alpine amps with the correct 5 pin DIN connects. In fact I was lucky McLuck's lucky sprig of heather, as my audio chap sourced the rare amps out of another CT that the owner wanted to upgrade.

So, there I am, I have the head unit, the adverts and the 2 power amps all good to go.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'll never be driving with the Radio on. As my car is somewhat loud and I would not hear jack all in any case. But like most owners, I want the car to be period.

The fact I've not fitted the system yet, shows how low priority this is. I'm also wary of the fact that I stripped out alarm system, radar detection, 3 power amps, 8 speakers and a CD changer when I brought the car. As such, I'm not a fan of putting in too much in the way of additional electrical components into the car. Especially on a wiring loom that is nearly 30 years old.

When I was researching the myriad of Alpine units used across the different models in the CT, I compiled a listing of what I would like to be fitted into the car. The top choice being the 7273 unit. A few days ago, one of these in the beautiful world we live in, became available.

She is now in my grubby little hands and I will look to fit next year at some stage. Main reason being is that this unit has internal amplification and will not require me to fit the additional Alpine amps into the car.

If anyone can point me in the direction of an Owners manual, I would be grateful.

Is the last car 3 DUU? If so I remember that when new as I am pretty certain it was originally owned by a guy who lived a few houses down from my parents, I remember it causing quite a stir when it first appeared on the driveway back in the 70's.

I believe the pics in the classic and sportscar article were taken by a friend of mine - I seem to remember he might have some on his website.

There is also #1120034
Verde Medio with Tobacco interior (the only production LP400 with this color combination).
Completede during September 1974 and delivered on December 18th in Luxembourg (this was the only LP400 delivered to this little country).
Later, this Countach was imported into the USA.

I found those photos in an american Consumer Guide book from October 1986.
On the first photo, you can see the original license plate from Luxembourg.
On the second photo, the car appears very dark, but it is only due to the exposure.
