I don't even know why he is the team Ferrari principal.

He seems like a glorified Ferrari cheerleader/PR guy who'll ride James Allison's coattail. Mattiachi set up a lot of the foundation of where the team is today.

 

Hmmmmm. He has been intimately involved with the team for 20 years, has close ties with the title sponsor and knows the FIA and sporting executives of F1 very well. He also knows people, how to motivate them and how to make people like him.

Yeah, terrible choice for a team leader...

 

If Mattiachi were so great I imagine he'd still have the job. From an outsider's perspective it looked like he was unable to motivate or even competently manage the team. Whether this year's improvements were due primarily to previous or current management is unknowable unless you're in the team or the board room.

Trying to figure out Italian corporate politics is always exasperating.

 

Mattiachi was picked by LdM-hence was sacked when SM cleaned house.
F1 is about technology more than ever, the most important people on the team are the engineers, everything else is secondary, but the team managers have to make sure that all the engineers are pulling in the same direction. It's sad, fia idiots should allow in season testing, at least after every 3-4 races imho.

Allison is the key component in the turnaround.

 

Team leaders need to motivate people and create a culture of harmony...getting a technical director like Ross Brawn for example that can also lead is rare. Allison and others will be the creators of all of the technical wonder that makes them win, but managing all of the activity is a completely different animal.

 

I don't think so my friend. He was 'barely there' and all of a sudden he is the main reason the team is where it is today due to him?

Mattiachi wasn't even involved in any track operations. He was in charge of Ferrari North America, effectively a salesman.

Arri on the other hand, was from Philip Morris and was deeply involved in the racing team. Many years ago, i saw clips of him being present even when Schumi was giving shakedowns to some of the challengers.

His job mainly is to delegate and coordinate the team together. I've never seen the team so gelled and happy since the days of MS/Brawn/Todt.

 

Arrivabene is doing just fine, I think. He actually has a personality.

 

He gets fired up singing Il Canto degli Italiani!

 

3 race wins in a period of major Mercedes domination when no other team is even getting close to challenging them week in-week out; an entire team focussed on working together to try to beat Mercedes, two drivers who work very well together (yes Kimi should be doing a lot better than he has but as fans we're never given the full story of what is really going on), and a team atmosphere that hasn't been this good for @ decade?

I'm 100% behind Maurizio, doing a great job, everyone likes him at Ferrari, and unlike Domenicalle, seems to heve much more control of team..

 

It seems to me that he has been "planted" by Philip Morris, which is still Ferrari's main sponsor, even if tobacco advertising is banned and the Malboro logo don't appear on the cars.

It may not be a bad thing. Remember how another sponsor's executive landed the job of team principal and collected 4 WDC later. His name was Flavio Briatore.

I hope Arrivabene can do the same!

 

Exactly. Flavio was/is a charismatic person who could manage people/drivers and play F1 politics well. He is still an active driver's manager, and rather successful to this day. I miss him in the paddock, even though he made some sketchy decisions along the way.

 

Arrivabene has done a sensational job. He's clearly a respected and passionate leader. I hope he sticks around a while and continues the success.

 

He's tight with Bernie too.

No complaints from me about Marlboro man. I recall noting at the time of his appointment it may be the smartest move SM has made; As you say, he's tight with Bernie, knows Charlie & Todt well having been in the paddock for 20+ years & seems to understand the politics.

Hopefully with Allison driving design they'll come out of the box strong next year. (Although I still maintain push -v- pull is basically irrelevant! (& no, we don't need to revisit that one again!)

 

Those who think that he needs to go definitely don't know how crucial a good manager is to any group of people.

 

Perhaps those on here who think Arrivabene is doing such a terrible job and should be replaced could explain why? - Rather than making non committal statements of "I just don't get the guy!"

What don't you get?
What's he doing so badly?
What should he be doing differently?
Who's supposed to replace him that will do so much better than he is?

 

I also vote him to be the best dressed team principle. Eat that haters! ; )

 

Arrivabene understands the Ferrari way..... That's his strength. He makes the team feel like Ferrari, not like A N Other F1 team

 

It was Mattiacci who put Allison in charge, fired the engine boss, arranged the free-wind-tunnel-time deal with Haas and hired Vettel.

So far Arrivabene has been racing with Mattiacci´s team. Let´s see what he can do next year.

 

Mattiaci built it, but did he know how to make it work.... I think that may be the question. Undoubtedly, arrivabene seems to have that bolted down just now.

Mattiaci is undoubtedly very good at what he does, and was able to put together a good team, but maybe the racing side itself was his blind spot. Arrivabene has been around the team for so long, he saw how the last dream team worked, and maybe it's not personnel, it's just racing, that makes him good

Really quite like arrivabene.

Mattiachi was brought in short term, and he made the wise choice of listening to allison. Seems to me arrivabene had managed it all quite well so far, knows what's good for the team and everyone within the team to perform well. Team harmony is key to this.

Merc is worried about their harmony already...

 

They just want some of it.
