hey guys, I've never bought a new car in my life, i've always bought them a bit used. the market, at least in canada, for the f12 seems a bit odd.. used cars are actually more expensive than a new car (they recently dropped their prices on the f12 by 40k) i am considering just getting a new f12. What are your thoughts on its ability to hold its value at this point in it's lifecycle?
You'll be in good shape with low depreciation for another 12 months but more and more cars are available and prices have certainly already begun the inevitable decline in NA and are back to earth near or at MSRP and in some cases under MSRP. The new v12 should be announced by late 2016 early 2017 at which point values will drop more sharply. The v12s tend to have the heaviest depreciation when new models come out.
Even when the new F12 replacement is announced and comes out... It's highly unlikely you will be able to get one for the first few years. So if you like the current F12, order a new one and enjoy it for years to come and don't worry about depreciation as its a car and in general cars depreciate. Just appreciate driving it
If you get a new one and dont want to lose a ton, then : -Sell it within 12mo. -Drive it less than 5k. -Dont order any color combo that is too personal. Red or Grey or Black seem to be the easiest to resell. The F12 will soon be 4 years old so id expect a refresh for 2016/2017 and that will hurt the 1.0 value even more.
+1, or just enjoy the hell out of it and risk taking the hit. If you don't mind some depreciation then have fun with your car and forget the rest...
New Fcar prices in Canada have been realigned (down) very recently. There were very few F12 allocations since new so if you wanted one and did not want to wait for a long time the only option was used ... the market is starting to soften but the reality is buy what you like, drive the heck out of it and smile!!!! There are only so many trips around the sun
I am on the hunt also.. With some persistence and patience build slots becoming possible. A quick search indicates around 60 on market. The resale over MSRP starting to turn as they sit on the market for months.. The thrill of the order and wait is worth more than a Broker mark up !
Hi, do you know how much prices have been lowered? I too live in Canada and it's hard to find very current info. Thanks
I don't know the Canadian market, but in the US the market is definitely softening. Supply is up, and demand has tapered with the growing expectation of something newer in the works, the loss of novelty due to age, and the V12 overall depreciation curve likely starting its arc. I bought my car to drive, and expect it to depreciate along the way. I don't think the current release is one to "drive for free" any more. But the car is a total pleasure and really lives up to expectation. 😄
