First and second place in the 1956 Sebring 12 Hours were not TR's, they were Ferrari 860 Monzas. I was there, attending my first international race just before starting Navy officer training.

Hi Alebart! I had taken the train from Miami to Sebring, no hotel room, all full so I fell asleep in the train station until 0100 when the master woke me to close the station. I walked into town, mostly dark, and past a side street from which some lights came. Turning there I came on a private home with a garage --- that was being used by the Ferrari factory team! the cars were there under poor lighting, mechanics presiding over final preparations and tuning. I walked to the Sebring Hotel and into the lobby. All chairs and couches were filled with sleeping people so I sat on the floo0r against a wall until one man rose to relieve himself at which I sat in his chair and was asleep when he returned. What wonderful times! One could actually talk with drivers and mechanics. I have somewhere the Kodachrome slides i took with my little Leica!

What is the (I think) silver car next to the FIAT 128?

Does it have an Alfa grill heart?

Pete, that car is a Lancia Zagato modified in Argentina in period. Rare. I haven't seen it before either.

    Hi!
I think all the Ferrarichatter would enjoy your full story about this race!So please let us more!!!
I was 10 years old when I watch the last Mille Miglia passing trought Florence and I was astonished.
I remember some hill climbs also and a driver few centimeters benehat my feet (I was sitting over a wall)probably driving a Maserati birdcage and smoking his cigarette unless the marshall give him the start.....
If you have a little of time to find yours Kodachromes will be a Christmas gift for me!!!!
    All the best,
    Alessandro

Thanks Aardy and Boudewijn for your images and have to ad that my interest in that Ferrari 410 it's because I attended that Auto Show in Brussel 1956, on my first trip to Europe while I was 14 years old. Do you know it's serial number?

It's PF job number 15251 that was sold to Count Somsky in Switzerland in 1956, most probably ex-0423/SA renumbered to 0471/SA.

If the picture's caption is correct, there is good argument that today's restored racers are overly shiny. This car's finish is almost entirely non-reflective.
