Wonder if the color code is also #173? as mine is ( previous post ) is also "supposed" to be fly yellow. If so maybe the enduring story of Porsche not leaving material unused?

Paint code is #178. Mine is #173 both supposedly Fly yellow. The one@ Sloan is code #98. So far no one has come up with the color name for all three yellow 79 930. Anyone know the color code well to put a name to these numbers?

I was a designer at Porsche Weissach when this article was done. My childhood friend, Jeff Zwart called me in the studio and said he needed a Turbo for a R&T Porsche special edition. It just so happened that our chief modeler, Peter Reisinger just took delivery that day of a Pearl Orange Metallic Turbo with special one off black leather interior. Reisinger agreed to let Jeff use the car. The day of photography was dark clouds and rainy. The Pearl Orange just lit up anytime there was a hint of sun. I also told Jeff of a coal mine nearby. The dark clouds and black coal against Pearl Orange was spectacular. It was one of those happy coincidences that we all remember. I thought this would be of interest.

I wonder how many were done? His was German spec "paint to sample" with a special print black leather designed by Porsche's color and trim team led by Frau Müller Goodwin.

    Freeman,

I've been told there were three painted that color but as you know solid information like that is not easy to come by.

    Phil,

I found this in Hagarty's Spring 2012 issue of their magazine on Mark Greene's Pearl Orange 930 https://www.hagerty.com/~/media/3CE14BF3DE66427B8D0CCAC1F63B06B1.ashx

They valued it at that time at $20K to $60K! I would say that was a good investment for him! Mark's is actually a 1988 930 correct? I wonder if the 1986 R&T story had an influence on the original owner's color choice?

Mark's is an 1988. Had fun reading the comparo between the LT1 vette and the RS in the hagerty newsletter. My wife has owned a 1970 LT1 vette for 40 years, currently being restored. Maybe I need to haul it out the track and compare to one of my 911's. I'm not sure my wife would agree,;)

this must be the same car that resided in Atlanta in the early 2000s. I remember it at a PCA concour at Hennessey Porsche. Stunning color in the sun.

1990 silver state challenge-- Rodger Ward was the host.

90 miles wide open partly in the rain. Route 318 Ely, nv.

Red Testa Rossa won. 191 mph top speed. IIRC ( if I remember correctly)

Here are a couple of stereos I scored on eBay that are period correct. Not sure why I bought them as mine still has the factory Porsche CR radio.
