The photo is not lit or exposed very well. The car is probably yellow and the light on the car is very bright so all you see is reflected light from above. If you look along the side of the car you can see individual reflections and areas where no light is shining.

The last week of May, 1955; 0564(0424)MD in French Racing Blue - either at the Factory, or at the Modena Autoaerodrome for testing. One coat of nitrocellulose, not polished, wet-sanded or compounded. So it was shiny, at least initially, with runs, orange peel and the like.

I don't think it is the beginning i.e. Belgium because there is a sign in Italian on the wall . And from the Maurice Louche pictures we know the car went through the Dolomites ,even if I don't know when they were forced to stop with engine problems. Interesting to notice the car had a double headrest, obviously made for the owner/ driver as Scaglietti never manufactured to my knowledge such rear headrest. But the visual effect is not bad! I looked at it and I think it could be replicated just with the boot lid shaped as such without affecting the body itself...
Guys we know they were never as shiny as they are now. Part of the reason we know this is because of the type of paint that was available back then. We also know that the condition of the bodywork or general cleanliness of the cars were not as important as it's performance ... from an ex-Alfa works driver who actually cleaned a GTA himself feeling sorry for it, ie: Harvey Bailey. They were loved by the mechanics as race cars, not show ponies. This hyper cleanliness and amazing visual presentation is a modern thing that didn't start until the late 80's-ish ... even the 70's F1 pre race work was completed on the floor like a shop mechanic would. Nuvolari's health had deteriorated considerably during the war years particularly his lungs.The driving skills though were still there i.e. the 1948 Mille Miglia.. It has always been said that his health problems came from too many fumes from the race cars and too much smoking of the strong unfiltered cigarettes of the day. During his last years he often drove with a mask over his mouth and nose which can be seen in this photo and may others of the day. Dear Paul It helped me to see the full photographs and to look at the background. I am pretty sure this is Castle Combe. #3729 with Portman and #3869 with Fry. They did both race their respective GTO's at Combe in 1964 but I do not have programmes to verify the race numbers or meeting.
