I couldn't find a thread on this to answer my question. I have a black/red 308GTS I've owned for 5 years. I have only seen a couple other black/red ones before. Is that color combination pretty rare? Is there data anywhere about how many of each color combination 308's that were made?

Not to my knowledge. As I have written many times, all information given on color schemes is never substanciated by any source, and impossible to cross-check. So whatever information you might find should always been treated with some caution.
However, for some specific markets, the original importer might be very helpful: in the UK for instance, "Maranello concessionnaires" has given some interesting informations along the years.

That said, I would tend to agree with Dr Tommy: black 308s and 328s are "not that rare" (about 12/13% of all production), depending on markets.

My '79 GTS is Nero and Rosso. I have never seen another black 308 in my area but I have seen a 328. That said, I have seen numerous other posts with Nero and Rosso over the years.

They are not common but they are around. I too would be interested in the production numbers but that is part of owning these cars.

I would love to know as well.

But we will likely never fully know unless the factory releases a lot of information that they probably dont have or at least dont have good records on.

I think the black red was more popular on the carbed cars. Seems like those are the ones I see mostly.

I am going to start paying more attention.

I am sure this has been linked to before, but it's pretty nice. Lists 1660 GTB's by VIN and many have the color listed (but not interior). Prugna and metallic brown are RARE! Was happy to see that by this list yellow was about 4.5%, but this is a small list, and who knows if it is accurate... Fun to look at though!

Those who know, know that it is the best list there is; painstakingly collected over years by Robert. As with any list held by any enthusiast, data comes from owners, from those who have seen a car "in the flesh" or on an add, and reported it to Robert.
There is no better one than this one, that Robert has limited to carbed GTBs.

And of course there is Matthias Urban's book (or should I say: Books, because of the supplements)

I interpret the OP's question to be how many red, tan, and black interiors are paired with a black car.

With that in mind, I have been in the market for a black '84/85 308 QV or an '86-88 328 for the past year. Here is an unscientific sampling of what I have seen for sale in that limited range:

    '84/85 308 QV
    Total Cars (all colors)- 169
    Black/Red- 2
    Black/Tan- 3
    Black/Black- 1

    '86-88 328
    Total Cars (all colors)- 204
    Black/Red- 1
    Black/Tan- 10
    Black/Black- 10

Black/Red seems to be the most limited combination for black cars.

Red interior was much more common on silver or white cars.

Another problem on early 308's. At that time many colors made lost favor over time, at least in the USA. Also the Glidden Salchi paint that was used was not terribly durable. The combination has led to many of those cars being repainted in a different color.

Thanks for all the input. My 308 is a 1979 carb car, so maybe a more common combination?
But I've not seen many. When I was looking for a 308 most all I saw was rosso/tan, and fell in love when I found my nero/rosso....love the colors. See the pic.

My limited ad hoc statistics confirm Rifledriver's observation:

    '84/85 308 QV
    White/Red- 1
    White/Tan- 0
    White/Black- 0
    Gray-Silver/Red - 3
    Gray-Silver/Tan- 1
    Gray-Silver/Black- 2

    '86-88 328
    White/Red- 6
    White/Tan- 5
    White/Black- 2
    Gray-Silver/Red - 4
    Gray-Silver/Tan- 2
    Gray-Silver/Black- 5

I have quickly checked for the 328s (sorry, I don’t have statistics on 308) and if I count until the end of American model year 1988, but worldwide, I have:

A total of 64 white 328 (I think I have about 50% of the cars; unfortunately, I don't have much information on Japanese 328s, and white is a color much liked in Japan)

    Of which:
    Unidentified interior colors: 7
    Red leather interiors: 11
    Black: 12
    Crema: 3
    Beige: 27
    Blu: 3
    Grigio: 1

When you say Gray-Silver, you mean Argento? Or Grigio (700/c) AND Argento (101/c).

I mean BOTH- Grigio (700/c) AND Argento (101/c). Sometimes, I have seen the same car commonly advertised as Gray in one ad and Silver in a later advertisement without the distinguishment you are noting.

Hey, I see that car in my garage every day with the exception of the euro blinkers on the front. My car is also a '79 GTS, lot the color combo.

rkljr...don't you love seeing your car in those colors everyday? I can be in a terrible mood and it just takes stepping into the garage and I feel better. The joy of owning a Ferrari is knowing that you can, and seeing it everyday!

Agree, it always puts a smile on my face even in the cold winter months when I cannot drive it.
