Wider/longer. Soon they won't be able to pass because they won't fit two wide.

Faster is good but not being able to pass is stupid

Just what we need, more downforce, dirtier air.

Like I said a few weeks back...WHO DREAMS THIS **** UP?!

It's very simple. Simplify front wings (i.e. single elements, definitely not wider, quite the opposite), add venturi tunnels. Cars will have much more downforce, but will be able to follow.

It's like the guys dreaming up these rules specifically want to ruin F1.

So the wider tires add mechanical grip, correct? That is a (+) in the changes.
Wider car is similar, adds to the wider tires, even more mechanical grip. Another (+).
Wider wings is the big (-). I guess the cars will require some more downforce, but
    30% more sounds a lot.

ya...not sure why they didn't simplify the fw like the gp2 series. plenty of overtaking there without drs...sigh.

These new rules take F1 farther down the wrong road. More down force, more emphasis on aero devices, more wind tunnel time required, more advantage to most powerful PU, and they will likely look even more gruesome than they do now.

The only changes that are worthwhile are the changes in track and tire size, if Pirelli can make tires that work.

Disagree. Wider - lower and larger diffuser - lower rear wing profile will reduce the drag and trailing vorticies.. you will still have them regardless of any wing or no wings.

wider tires and side pods I love it... with the current tracks F-1 has - there is no danger of the cars being to wide... even at Monaco.

if you look at the cars from the early - late 80's they were WIDE!

This is an engineering sport. Everyone having the same car like GP2 turns this into NASCAR and the IRL

30 percent more downforce sounds like exactly what the don't need. Wider tires I'm all for but they should place limits on the front and rear wings for less downforce not more. What the heck are they thinking?

Monaco will be even duller than it already is with this formula. Great job by the clowns that dreamt up this set of tech regs NOT.

Well they are definitely going to look really cool with huge tires and massive wings. We'll see how the racing goes though...

Mercedes says this is a mistake also:

    F1 Racing News | Racer.com - F1's 2017 plan is 'wrong,' says Mercedes' Costa

"As engineers we feel we have done quite a lot for the car being able to overtake, with the previous rules and the current rules. By going to a car that has an enormous amount of downforce and a very complex aerodynamic shape, in our opinion it will make overtaking more difficult."

    ...and

"We believe we should go towards improving mechanical grip, more than a pure aerodynamic exercise."

Rules for 2017 can still be adjusted. Hopefully FIA sees sense and actually listens...

Or in other words, an F1 car with a roof on top.

That's because they are designed for 24h races and not 90 minutes sprints !!!
