Just No. 458's aren't slow...and this is nuts. You're going to tell me you can feel the difference going a quarter mile in 10.8 vs 11.1? No way - If, you are buying a Ferrari for the numbers, you are doing it wrong. The 'how fast' discussion is for kids. No one is drooling over a Porsche, and I've had 6 911's and a Macan in the driveway as we speak...people DO drool over Ferraris...they are works of art, beautiful, Italian, sexy af.

If I had to choose, and some of use do, I'll take a "slow" Ferrari, anyday, over a 911. No question. Not close.

People don't buy Ferrari's for the numbers. They buy them for passion.

Absolutely agree here. People throw these numbers out as if it really matters and they can tell the difference between 3 tenths of a second. Sounds like a bunch of adolescent kids proving their manhood.

Ferrari is a piece of art and nothing comes close to it.

I've had many Ferraris , Porsches and a Mclaren too and I think the Ferrari is a piece of art but numbers are important to me too. And yes 3 tenths of a second is significant in the quarter mile and will equal many car lengths.

So you drag race other kids on the streets? Are you a professional race car driver? Otherwise I think it's pointless. How do you feel if a Tesla with ludicrious mode smokes your as$? Are you going to go out and get the latest and greatest?

I Fully agree with you too. This is why I sold the Porsche...

My last post was in reply to the post stating that 458 were as fast as 911's and that the 488 was in a different league all together which is not true.

You know, this is an interesting subject. I'll admit, I don't even really understand why it's significant. I'm 63 years old, loving everything about life. As I sit here and read all the posts, making my Porsche TTS faster with mods, or if the 488 really crushes my 458, I'll admit that I don't really understand why the hell it really matters. I loved my 458 more than any car on earth, yet I sold it in a heart beat for the latest and greatest 488. I started drag racing when I was 16, and some how it's still exciting to rip down the airfield, or street for that matter, and beat the guy next to me. Call it shallow, and by the way I think it is, but somehow it still excites me to kick the next guys ass.

I love cars of all shapes and colors, but nothing has ever made feel the same as a Ferrari. I just wish I could get mine sooner. I truly feel blessed to be in line for such a beautiful, exotic, sexy, wonderful machine. Every time I got behind the wheel of my Ferrari, I cant express how special it feels. Like I said, not sure I understand why, but Ferrari is the only car on earth that can make me feel that way. As long a I have the good fortune to own a Ferrari, I will.

As a fellow Ferrari owner, I also feel really blessed to own one. All my friends are envious. But at the same time, I know there are a lot of faster and cheaper cars out there. I think even 488 won't be the fastest one out there even though it's the latest and greatest. Just enjoy what you have and not always wanting the next best thing. I would've bought an F355 if it didn't have all the maintenance issues. I love the look and sound of 355.

The figures are there for everyone to see. The 911 launches better due to 4WD, but the 458 accelerates harder after that. Don't get hung on 0-60, as this is traction limited. In the standing km for example the 458 is already ahead. The 488 is much quicker than than both these cars of course. Something like dozens of metres ahead after 1 km or so.

This summarizes my view point so well.

Ferrari's are work of art but they are also super cars, coming from a very strong racing heritage. To each his own. Maybe I am childish to still enjoy the odd challenge at a street light ( only when it is absolutely safe) or visit the drag strip once in a while to see how the car stacks up, I have enjoyed doing this ever since I was a teenager.

Only recently, I have decided to trade performance for pure driving excitement. This is why Ferrari is my choice. But it does not mean that it doesn't hurt me anymore to get owned by a 120K Merc E63S with a simple performance kit or a Corvette Z06 from a roll. At the price we are paying for our cars, I wish it did not happen. But at the end of the day, I am the one going home with the most beautiful, sexy, satisfying and exciting one...

Enjoying a Ferrari for me is multifaceted. I race on a track. A Tesla is all wheel drive and launches hard but loses steam quickly and would get demolished by even a 458 after 60mph. Performance may not matter to you and that's fine. A lot of people like you buy Ferraris for Status and show. I've always bought cars to drive and race and I do care about the performance. To each his own

I own both a Ludi Tesla and 458 Speciale. It takes more than 60 for the 458 to pass. If the 458 can hook up on those Cup2 tires!

So you assume I bought a Ferrari for show. I care about performance just as much as the next guy that owns a Ferrari. But do I care if an inferior car beats me at a stop light? No! But I guess for you, you feel insecure enough about your Ferrari that it's two tenths second slower. Can you tell the difference? Well I guess you gotta go get the latest and greatest! 458 is old car now. Always chasing for the next one.

You are lying out of teeth if you didn't buy a Ferrari for show. What a hypocrite! All of us bought a Ferrari for it's prestige, performance and it's beauty. You claim that you only buy it for performance. Crock of sh%t!

There are 2 different kind of performance. If you want a track performance, you'd need to modify the ride height (problem with daily drivable), down force (adding spoiler in the back will make it looks ugly), and traction (won't drift, less fun).
But if all you want is a straight race performance, just get a turbocharged and some plug-in stuff. Even a VW Golf is more than enough.
I think the most important when buying a road version Ferrari, is passion : look and sound.

Funny, that's actually my old car (from a few years ago) and the vid was made by the new owner. It has a kreissieg exhaust and cat delete. I still miss that sound.

No. The most important things when buying a road car are handling and feel. Look and sound are somewhere around the bottom of the list.

That was my first thought when I read the opening post.

Don´t worry about no sound of the 488. Capristo and Edo-Competition have a brand new sport exhaust with sport cats and valves. It sounds amazing and loud in person. The first 488 with it was shown and to hear at motorshow Essen in Germany.

I'm skeptical. Basic physics is still at work. As the car revs up, more energy is take out by the turbo. Less energy --> less sound. My little Abarth has no muffler at all and it is not loud at redline.
