It really is rare to find a DD with @ 5,000 miles preserved in immaculate original condition for the past 30 years. FLA12831 is a such a car. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Signor Valentino used a word to describe 12831: "Amazing". Congratulations to the car's new owner. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Interesting, didn't know this swiss QV, one more discovered! Via which dealer did it get delivered and when? GLA12927 again?
I for one, applaud Joe for this fabulous thread. It has been extremely informative for those interested in the DD variant as well as uncovering what many believe is a very meaningful revelation as to its homologation in group B. There is no doubt that the downdraft is a very important variant in the history of the Countach and worthy of its own thread. There has been no discussion of values on this thread to date, which has also been refreshing. It is clearly a popular thread at over 27,500 views in just a couple of months, so hopefully others will applaud Joe's efforts as well. I would think this also helps the sponsor of this section as all the visits is bringing many people to this forum - so can we say a win-win? Joe - I look forward to seeing photos of your car during its restoration. Perhaps you can start a thread of the restoration as well so others can learn the proper way to restore a car. I know from my own experience it is a full commitment on the part of the owner and not the best way to turn a quick profit, if that is one's goal.
Yes GLA 12927. FLA12831 was delivered to Garage Foitek in Zurich, apparently it was kept discreetly in CH therefore even you didn't know this car! Its on its way to the USA. I would describe this DD as a "reference car". Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Being a QV owner, this thread is right up my street and I've learnt a lot about the history and specifics of the model. I'm a picture whoare and cannot get enough images. I'm sure the restoration of any model / Lambo would be very interesting to the group as a whole. As Chris states, maybe put it in it's own thread. R
Hmm, I don't see a problem here. In this thread we are writing only about the QV version. There is an auction thread and a CT value thread, there is no need to boost anything, the QV is the most wanted of the modern ones and it deserves more attention than it got in the last years. My statement I always stood behind: The QV is the best countach ever made, in point of view power and drivability, still having the clean look till 88,5.
Thank you Chris, your thoughts mirror mine. In summation, I started the thread promising 3 things as stated in that first post: To provide a resource, avoid discussions of market values, and share material that has never been published or shared anywhere else. 1,100+ posts and 28,000 views later, I believe we have consistently accomplished all 3. Nothing else was promised or implied. How do I come to start these type of threads? I start threads on all the cars I've owned or own, as seen with the Miura, Countach, 288 GTO, F40 and Enzo, etc. because that's where my knowledge & specialization through ownership naturally starts. What knowledge do I share? I guess because I'm a student of what I own and therefore specialize in, and I am always researching & gathering information on every aspect of the car's history, design, development, production and current status. Why do I share so much material with the community? I simply feel compelled to do so, because I think its useful & helpful to others. Perhaps its for the same reason that has propelled me to undertake the not inconsiderable task of the magazine articles I've written, and the books I've researched, written & published. Who benefits from all this? My clients first & foremost, the car community at large, myself (I humbly learn as I go along), and, believe it or not, even my competitors. For example, the Lamborghini threads I start in what is essentially a Ferrari website bring a lot of traffic over to the Lamborghini world as a whole, and both owners & dealers benefit from new interest from hitherto Ferrari-only collectors with deep pockets. Anyone astute can see this clearly, and, I might humbly mention that my presence & reputation in the Ferrari world helps. I'm happy whomever benefits, as you said, it can only be win-win. So why did I really start this thread? If I really have to recall what caused me to start this thread, its without a doubt the FIA Homologation papers discovery. It still blows me away, and the minute I found out I resolved to start it (even though it had been on my mind for literally years). I'm writing a full-length feature for a major magazine for sometime in 2016 on the FIA Homologation - and I'll be providing both the 288 GTO and the Countach DD to be featured in the piece, so it'll be after the DD's restoration. I didn't start this thread because I have a DD, after all, I purchased my first DD 28 years ago, so ownership is not new to me. Also, my current DD is the car Ive waited 10 years to restore in the right way, and anyone who really knows what a proper restoration costs knows you don't do it for money or resale, you do it for love!! This thread was started to share new information - simply put. I'll think of how to present the DD's restoration and present it in due course. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Either way, all is good! As you say, the DD deserves its recognition because it is the most powerful version of the Countach. Yet still, we like all variants, each one for different reasons... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here is James May at Harry's place, messing around with his Countach. The top image was before James did a very bad thing - convincing Harry to put the wing back on Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
This may be an appropriate time to thank Joe once again, for his efforts to source and store and share aspects of Countach history and in particular, on this occasion, the photos which I appreciate especially the non posed ones, the DD on a Monaco street in this thread for instance. Anyone with sense will concur, that he has added to the rich tapestry of countachworld for the benefit of owners and enthusiasts at large and his efforts to post so much and so often clearly goes way beyond any narrow self interest.
What a great resource this thread has been and will continue to be going forward. May those who care contribute without hesitation, lest we lose some nuances to history.
Just found another one, HLA12136, swiss car from late 1986, also with the choke wire to the carbs: LAMBORGHINI 5000 quattrovalvole, Occasion, Benzin, 37'500 km, CHF 590'000.- - AutoScout24
I shall accept the board members response to my posting in regards to Joe and offer an apology if it has come across as attacking. For this Mr Joe Sackey, I apologize. Lets all have a Happy Holiday Season Roy Cats
The DD thread's success was certainly tied to the wealth of images and info that Joe has posted and continues to do so! I know of many "enthusiasts" that collect and never share! Let's keep this great thread going! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I am glad to see the recognition given on this thread. This thread is exactly what FerrariChat is about!!! The foundation of WHY we are all here...to learn, discuss and inform. As many of you know, my father worked very closely with Joe Nastasi of Lamborghini North America and was the authorized Lamborghini service in the 1980s in Palm Beach. He visited the factory in the 1980s and 1990s and amassed a collection of parts, cars, factory documents, etc. He had personal relationships with Ingrid, Valentino, Fabio, etc, etc. ALL of that being said... Until this thread, NEITHER of us knew about ANY FIA certification on the QV Countach. Joe and myself might not always agree on every topic, but I must say this thread is part of history. Great work Joe!
Another DD, this time a swiss car getting an engine out Job in North italy, I think it's FLA12843 based in Ticino owned by a paint Artist. https://www.facebook.com/Auto-Professional-1015008648519986/
To start and maintain a thread (as Joe does actually with this thread) is a great incredible labor of love and even if it doesnt look like, it is an awful lot of hours each week: preparation, following up, guiding, posting etc. Congrats are usually few compared to the amount of love given. I stated my congrats on the first pages on Post 29 of this given thread and i repeat them again today: I just would like to add i feel a little bit surprised that recently VB is being continously titled as "Maestro" in this thread...given the fact how bad VB spoke about FL in several interviews and videos... I am sure FL would issue a nice revenge to VB for this...lets express it better and more easy to understand with the italian word *vendetta* *****if FL would be still with us and if he could defend himself against VB...***** btw: there is an unwritten law in society "never speak bad about somebody which is not anymore with us", but unfortunately VB repeatedly violates this - unfortunately ! Ben
Ben, My father knew FL personally and worked with guys in the 1970s/1980s who dealt with him on a daily basis. FL was definitely a visionary but did not always look after employees, friends, and vendors. He had a pretty "interesting" reputation. Honestly, I get why VB would say the things he has said! In a way it is much like the common perception of Steve Jobs... Visionary, YES... Personable guy? Ahem...
Thank you Joe for an invaluable thread . The DD is surely special and what you have uncovered is mind blowing for owners and enthusiasts alike . AMAZING !
