Can't wait until Mad Max gets a fast car Formula 1: Max Verstappen tops 2015 overtakes list - BBC Sport
Meh. Gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette. I am sure he will learn from his mistakes. Can't progress in life unless risks are taken and some mistakes are made. Loldonado hasn't learned from his mistakes. He keeps making the same mistakes over-and-over again. Max is mature already, and will only mature further. Seb/Max 2017!
Jennie gow held a poll in which Verstappen and Hamilton will be put head to head. Presumably she had mostly British followers. Interesting opinion of the public! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Vettel did an incredible job this year he deserved the number one ranking. I don't understand all the hype around verstappen so soon. He still has a lot to prove
+2 I've noted many times that pretty much every young "hot shoe" that comes in should, according to many, be hired *immediately* by the Scuderia..... Only to have their flame dim over time.... Cheers, Ian
C'mon, leave Fisichella alone (I agree with your assessment though. Once there is pressure, the driving tends to change, though I think Max looks legitimate. Too early to heap the praise he's receiving though...way too early.)
Overtaking stats are useless in the grand scheme of things. Lots of the passes are from being out of place on the grid so they are just passing slower cars. I'd like to know how many passes were fake DRS passes vs real passes. The article mentions when DRS was introduced overtaking tripled but overtaking is down 10% from last year. Chilli came 2nd with 45 passes only 4 passes less but he also DNF'd 7 races vs Max 4 so really Chilli would of probably got the "award"
I prefer the Ferrari setup as it is, Vettel is a great ambassador for the brand. When Kimi goes I'd obbiously love Verstappen to take his place, though .
So you see nothing special about Verstappen and his racing attitude? You don't see any potential for him to become a great F1 driver? (Let's not forget he is only just 18 years of age!). You would be happy to see Ferrari pass on the opportunity of having Verstappen in the team? So who do you think would be a better choice for a future Ferrari driver instead? I've said it before and I'll say it again: I see a lot of Gilles Villeneuve in the way Mad Max goes racing (and the way he is off track too!). He has an attacking style and a hunger/determination to do well that makes him stand out from the other young drivers. As far as I'm concerned, that's as big a compliment as being compared to Senna or Schumacher! Yes other drivers have come along and looked like they could be the next F1 great and it hasn't worked out, often though, that has been through poor choices, unfortunate timing and just bad luck! (what could have become of Perez if he hadn't gone to McLaren who then shat on him after a single year in a crap car for example? McLaren seemed to sap the life out of him and then left his only drive option as being a couple of mediocre teams). Yes there are no guarantees with Verstappen, but that goes for every other up and coming driver, and out of all those drivers, Verstappen looks to be the most exciting of the lot! An exciting driver in a Ferrari? - That's what the majority of the F1 fans want to see!
Dear ol' Fisi! Agreed; early returns are certainly promising and I think he's continuing to get sage advice from his dad, who knows his way around an F1 paddock & is probably keeping him a little grounded too. But the next Gilles, Michael or Ayrton? As you say, *way* too early to tell yet. Cheers, Ian
Sure, as noted prior, he looks like the real deal. Certainly another guy I'm sure they're all keeping a close eye on. I'd say he seems to have the *potential* to be one of the best. All good & valid points and you make some good arguments. But me, personally, I still think it's too early to anoint him as anything other than a very promising new talent. And we know Ferrari never hire 'unproven' talent, and he remains unproven; Very promising, yes, but a long way to go yet. As Bas noted, lets see how he goes next season & then revisit the idea. Cheers, Ian
I too think Max is the "real deal", but will have to see, the last guy that really poped to me in his begginings was Alesi, heven't seen anyone better since but Max really impressed me.
Max is fast and young. Sebastian is also fast and a four time champion. But what happens after Seb is done, when he retires? Ferrari needs the new fast blood to continue on. Max has the aggressiveness and bravado that comes with youth. He needs a fast car, and Ferrari needs a fast YOUNG driver. Max fits this mold.
