    What makes it sounds good, is not the higher rev limit, but the NA engine. New Porsche GT4 only revs to 7,500 but sounds much better than Mclaren that revs to 8,500 (turbocharged). And turbocharged cars basically don't need to rev that high. If it's set that high, it's an artificial rev, so if you change gears on red line, the car will actually perform slower.

    Hi Arnie, thanks so much for your gracious invitation! I know one thing, you'll be getting your 488 well before me. I'm on the wait list at Ferrari South Bay and I'm pretty sure I'm pretty low on the totem pole. I don't mind waiting though, as it'll give Ferrari a chance to refine the car before I take delivery. And it'll give me more time to sell my 430, which BTW if you haven't followed, is going up in value due to it being one of the last mid-engine V8 Ferraris available with a manual transmission. Thanks again for the invitation!

    From this week's Autocar...

    The incentive for proceeding beyond 6000rpm is, as promised, yet more speed. Unlike the old V8, which produced 560bhp for an instant, the new motor sustains peak power for the final 2000rpm, meaning that the Spider's acceleration barely pauses even as the revs drop between gear changes.

    Bottom line is there has still never been a video showing clean shifts at 8000 rpm. Eventually a new owner will answer this ever lasting question with a video.

    Problem is that I did a launch back in June with the 488 and 8000 was the shift point. It's when it's switched to manual mode that it would limit to 7500. I'm very anxious to see the real deal as 7500 was annoying to drive as it was always on the limiter

    Was it ever cleared up as to whether 488 can be made to rev in lower gears to 8000 in manual mode?

    I drove one briefly over the summer and was frustrated to have the limiter come in so early.

    Thanks!

    If a demo was available for potential buyers then the mystery would be solved;

    Now that I have covered more than 1000 kms (625 miles) I will try to reach 8000 rpms in manual mode - next time when I have the engine warmed up...

    That would be fantastic. You'll be the first owner to put the issue to rest. Please video the tach if possible for the world to see. Thx

    Sorry, what comments are you referring to? I watched the video and don't see an article to read. The driver in the video loved the car but had no mention of rpm shift points that I heard.

    Read the viewer comments in YouTube under the video. The reviewer says that the car revs to 8000rpm.

    I think this question has been answered, but after 17,279 people have read this post, no one has unaquivitally confirmed with video that their 488 revs to 8000 rpm at every shift. Like I've said before, I'm confident it does, but we need someone to video their tach shifting at 8000 through the gears. That will finally put this issue to bed.
