I've put a couple hundred miles on my car after having the SLine exhaust installed, so I thought I'd put together a review.

    First, my setup:

    Stock cats
    Agency Power headers, ceramic coated
    SLine exhaust
    MY: 2006

    Thoughts on the stock exhaust

My previous setup with the car was stock everything with valve modification (so valves were always open). I was pretty impressed with Ferrari and what they did with the stock exhaust. However, the sound was a bit too "sporty" for my taste. In other words, not exotic enough of a sound. I actually really liked how it sounded inside the cabin, more than from outside. There was also the ~4000 RPM drone which you couldn't get away from.

    Thoughts on S-Line

The guys at S-Line totally nailed this one. I am seriously impressed. I don't think my smile has ever left my face during driving with this exhaust installed! The magic is in that you don't need to be going fast to experience the sound. Some of my biggest smiles have come from just normal city driving, hearing the blips, crackles and pops, and just hearing the sound resonate against the buildings around me, even when I'm not even close to any. I think we all love the F430 for being a raw, more visceral experience, and this exhaust takes that to a new level.

Tone: At lower RPMs, you get a slightly deeper tone, which sounds really nice. Once you hit around 4K RPM, the deeper tone is replaced with a sharper one, and you really start to get the high pitched note. It's basically a full blown F1 race car sound from there.

Loudness: As discussed in the main thread (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/360-430-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/457689-s-line-x-pipe-exhaust-regular-f430-%7C-true-f1-high-pitch-sound-%7C-pics-videos.html), there's 4 different noise level setups:
    1. Stock cats + stock headers + SLine
    2. Stock cats + aftermarket headers + Sline
    3. Sport cats + aftermarket headers + SLine
    4. Straight pipes + aftermarket headers + SLine

I opted for level 2. I was considering straight pipes before the installation, assuming it might not be loud enough, but I was wrong. Standing behind the car while it revs is ear-piercing, but in a good way :)

All this being said, I highly recommend aftermarket headers to complement this exhaust, and you should probably have them anyway!

Startup: Cold starts on this setup are LOUD and will wake up your neighbors, but it's worth it :) The loudness only lasts a minute and then it settles. The warm startup sound is finally as aggressive and loud as it should be. Perfect.

Shifting: Upshifts sound great, but there is true magic in the downshift blips. You get a HUGE blip when downshifting at around 3K/4K RPM.

Crackles and pops: Pretty sure you need aftermarket headers to experience the full range of this, but I have experienced way more pops and crackles on upshifts and overruns than with the stock setup. There's more of the standard burbles, too. I have found certain RPMs to upshift at where I can induce a loud pop if I wanted to (see first video). The overrun crackles are awesome, and happen a little more randomly. Similar to those found in a Huracan, but more raw sounding and less overproduced :p

Aesthetics: I believe the tips have gone through a few different versions, and I received what I believe to be the latest. They don't stick out far, and I think they're just right. See photo below. The pipe itself is beginning to turn a purple/blue color, which is always nice to see. The welds are impeccable.

    Pros:
    - no droning at any RPM
    - loud only when you want it to be
    - when driving normally and with windows closed, I am pretty sure it is even less loud inside the cabin than the stock exhaust
    - lots of crackles and pops (get aftermarket headers)
    - 20+ pounds weight savings

    Cons:
    - no valves; loud cold starts may upset neighbors in early AM

Hey Brent, are you in/near LA? I'm considering a similar set up on my scud (headers & S-Line) and would love to hear the car in person. I'm concerned about noise (being too loud) and it's hard to really gauge this from a video.

Brent, thanks a lot for the comprehensive review!

With just the S-Line exhaust, it will pass emission test.
It's a cat-back system, meaning you'll still have OEM cats (both the pre-cats inside the OEM headers and the OEM "secondary" cats).
If you're adding aftermarket headers, like Fabspeed, you need to contact Fabspeed regarding their emission info. Any aftermarket headers will eliminate the pre-cats.

I know this is seperate from the s-line, but do you get a CEL with your AP/stock cat/s-line combo?

This review is about to push me over the edge to purchase. I like that the drone is not present.

No CEL light after a few hundred miles of driving. Hopefully stays that way!

Congrats on the 430! The new exhaust setup sounds wicked (in a great way!)

Thanks for sharing the video clips!

I have the S-line cat back with stock headers on my Scud. Sounds great and not too loud. Not as many crackles and pops as I had wished but high pitch shriek is very cool and engaging. All in all, cost effective way to improve the sound, reduce weight and heat build up in the engine bay. Would recommend!

Can anyone confirm that this set up would sound similar on the scud? Power output from the two engines is similar. Only difference may be the stock cats. Are the stock cats the same on an F430 and the scud? I know the scud has no pre-cats and the F430 does. I'm talking about the cats downstream of the headers.

BTW: Considering this set up and doing before after dynos to get stock, x-pipe, and x-pipe & header numbers.

Great review. My prototype 360 S-Line exhaust is going back to Teague in about 10 days for him to take apart and inspect to see what should be updated on it, if anything.

I have known him for 6 years and he is the best fabricator that I know. I'm glad to have gotten him into the whole Ferrari world; our cars are better off for it.

Yes, sounds similar, I think the Scud version has a "cleaner" high-pitch sound since the pipes (after the x-pipe) to the exhaust tips are a lot shorter.

Do you feel the exhaust note is raspy?

Ronnie's videos are a little on the raspy side, but he also has sport cats vs oem
