I have some nice, thick Lloyds overmats for my Mondial with retention grommets already installed but they always slide forward and I get the "Ferrari Cruise Control" effect when they hit the accelerator pedal.

I read about the zip tie retention method in another thread and decided to give it a try.

Works great and after I swap the black ties going to the mats for white ones, I think it will not be noticeable to anyone other than me.

Black ties are on the mats only for clarity in the pics.

The original carpet seems to stay in place with the overmats held in place.

    +1!

Birdman's tethers were ripping the carpets apart and screwing/glueing retainers into the floor seems like overkill.

I certainly must remember to remove this mod before Cavallino, lol!

Oh Wow Alden! that is a neat solution! I placed my seat on 1.5inch cylinder spacers so I can put the tie rip under the rails.

I am 6'4" and have thought about the spacer idea, for my wife in the passenger seat too, we both go from high sitting SUV's and F150's to the Mondial and a little more height might be nice.

Got any pics of the mod? I guess you just sourced longer bolts for the job?

    Alden,
nice and simple solution for a potential dangerous situation when the carpets start to slide forwards.
It doesn't always have to break the bank....thanks for the tip.

I don't think you need to punch the holes so deep into the carpet. They will be less noticable if the holes are closer to the edge. The carpet is a pretty tough material with the mat on the back, it should not tear.

Also, instead of a single hole, if you punch 2 holes side-by-side and weave the zip tie from under the carpet, it will show even less.

My Lloyd's mats came with holes and grommets already installed in those locations, so I got what I got.

Suggestion - Add metal (plastic/ rubber) grommets to the mats for the inserted cable ties to reduce tearing/ fraying.

    Happy holidays all.

I just put some two side Velcro on the floor panel around the gas pedal box, and the underside of my mats in the same area, stopped my mats from "creeping" and you don't see any Zip Ties!

Here you go. Indeed I have new longer hex bolts. You can order them at a tool shop. In my case I attached also a simply rack for the foam fire extinguisher since we do a lot of trips. Not for myself, but for others who didn't renew their fuel lines... or in case of an accident.

If you are 6'4" with spacers under a mondial seat if it is a cabriolet you must look like Herman Munster looking over the wind screen

I have plenty of extra headroom in my Mondial, I can even wear my Indy Jones fedora with the top up with the seats unmoded. And no, I do not have the backrest adjusted so my head is touching the rear seat, lol!

That is one reason I bought this F car, I wouldn't fit in a 308/328!

I don't really need the height, but I hear lots of guys doing it to the passenger seat for their wives or SO's.

You should have seen the tiny little old lady with the custom made, leather to match the interior, seat riser cushion in her little old man husband's red/tan FF I met the other day. If you met them in Wal Mart you would have thought they would be driving a Crown Vic, not a Ferrari!

An option discussed in other carpet slider threads.

I saw those, but cannot figure out where the "pins" on these go. Into the OEM carpet? They will tear like Birdman's holders I fear.

The pin slips into the fixed carpet. These were standard equipment on some of my cars, and I never had a problem with it tearing.
