Two things are for sure; I will never sell my Scud and I will buy the 488 lightweight version. And sorry Mik, I really don't love the Scud because of its sound, this car has so many other advantages and features.

    Not at all.

Using your definition of "highly tuned", it follows that common sports bike engines (max of 12,000 to 15,000 rpm) are in a higher state of tune compared to the V-8's on the 458 & Speciale.

Well in fact they are. But my point is that high rpm engines aren't all that uncommon or exotic.

So you love a slower but purer car AND WILL NEVER LET IT GO. I thought Scud was much less torque in low rpm, didn't have the turbocharged technology advantages, low passion because it does 0-120 mph over 2 seconds slower, didn't handle as well as 488, blah blah blah. And funny thing, we have another same preference, light weight.
IMO, the only thing Scud can come better than 488, is some passion, nothing else. Turns out you and I like the same thing : passion. How are you, brother?

It's getting difficult if you want to compare bike's engine to Ferrari's V8 engine, because Ferrari doesn't produce bikes. Some people here came out with airplane, I had another rubbish from submarine, and now you add one from bike. Its really too complicated comparing things from different worlds. I thought I was the only guy with the bad mouth about Ferrari, saying things against their turbocharged even the cars are not yet delivered so the engine is not proven. But now you are worse, saying that one of their proven and best V8 engine of all time, with so many rewards, the 458's and Speciale's engine, actually coming from the bike's engine.
Next you'd come out with rotary engine. I'd need another rubbish, Russian Hoovercraft. LOL.

No, he was quite clear that he values many other aspects of the car, and is not merely hung up on sound as you are.

Don't be silly, he's saying nothing of the sort. He's merely using common bike engines as an example to dismantle your argument that a 'highly tuned exotic' engine is defined merely by its rev range. He's saying if that were true then common bike engines should be considered more exotic that the engine in a 458 (which you seem to think is superior to the engine in a 488 due merely to an extra thousand revs) because they rev higher.

Wow, I feel like I'm on a Corvette or Viper forum..."my car is louder than yours" and "my new car will smoke your old car in a race"...gessh. This is the Ferrari forum correct?

Interesting to see the pissing contest by Ferrari owners, but kinda sad.

Time to close this thead. Too much different opinions and no understanding of other opinions, like in a nursery.

The sad part is that it's not about misunderstanding others' opinions, it's about lack of facts and a refusal to accept them by continually reverting to opinions that are bordering on an obsession. :)

Guys I think that this mik guy should work for Ferrari because he obviosuly knows everything there is to know about engines and turbos etc. I mean they could learn a thing or two from this guy. Wait please no one tell all these turbo engine exotic owners that they drive cars with cheap engines! The f40 engine must be horrible as well, what has Ferrari done?! They have ruined us with subaru type turbo cars now!!!!!!!!!! hahahahahhahahahahha

This is chatting forum, not a court. There is no need to make people to accept your opinion. Just speak out yours. That's why some people buy turbo and some don't. I agree with the other guy that this thread should be closed. It has become a bike thread.

As an owner of a 458 and Z 06, I have to agree. I always stereotype this forum as "civilized" and "sophisticated", while viewing the Corvette Forum (a bit) differently. Best

I have never heard about V8 bike. I think bike's engine can Rev that high because the rod is very short, can be used in only small displacement engine and low mass. If car is forced to Rev that high, it will become F1 car which needs maintenance every few hours.

Sound is an opinion based preference which no one can ever challenge (at least I wouldn't). However, when someone calls turbo engines cheap and not highly tuned, this is where actual facts need to be discussed. That is all.

In regards to all this motorbike engine talk, The engine from MV Agusta F4 was derived from the 1990–1992 Ferrari Formula One engine. Hence why they called it "F"4.

    Seriously?

It was 5 consecutive drivers championships from '87 to '91 and it was six constructors championshimps from '86 to '91.

I know my F1 and not exactly too many to list.

I buy new Ferrari's because I do not want to fix old ones and that is why I trade in when the warranty is up I do it with all my cars. I am not a big believer in parking my Ferrari in the garage and looking at it, I enjoy driving them I don't care about mileage I prefer to enjoy the car. I have no remorse trading last years model for next years, They are all great cars no matter which one you own. I am not a car collector I am a car driver. I don't care if yours is louder, faster or shinier I like what I buy because it's what I want.

And I, for one believe you. Now that we have that out of the way, my question is, if the warranty is only 3 years and models come out every 5 or so, how do you stay within warranty? Incidentally, same philosophy but always go out of warranty. Best

It's a matter of traction and a lot of 4WD cars can beat it off the line. But that's not important. What is important is that after 60 the performance of the Tesla drops off and all supercars beat it.

Ferrari is innovative when it counts. Laser headlights and things like that are unimportant in a sportscar. Ferrari utilises the best when it comes to actual engineering. If a technology is not satisfactory yet, they won't put into production until it becomes good enough.

Actually aeroplanes favoured superchargers. Forced induction is useful in high altitudes where the air is thin, thus its usage in aerospace applications first. You can make a lot of power in a number of ways though, especially in a ground vehicle.
