Is it just me, or is the green car 1,000,000 times more interesting than it's stablemates?

Does anybody know if the the QV crankcase has been modified during its production period from 85 to 89?
If yes, what was the modification? Was the crank also modified?

Imho, no. Especially if it's in the condition that you did describe, if you turn it back to a LP400 its going to be a non factory built LP400. Just my 2 cents, but who am i to say.....

    Hi Roy,

    Well, it depends...

If the Countach you are mentioning is #1120180 (or #1120228), you'd really better leave it as is!! True factory converted cars are historically valuable! Those two are the only ones mentioned in the original factory archives.

If the Countach is #1120074, go ahead! It was the only LP400 with a 'Rosso Chianti' interior, worth restoring (though it is RHD and less easy to sell).

#1120058 and 1120078 are also retrofitted 'S' LP400 but if I were to own them, I'd really let them the way they are. Beautiful and somewhat unique in their ways.

Other examples are #1120004 being restored in Italy from a Turbo-S-bastardization form, which is RIGHT to restore back to its original LP400 guise with almost-unique features (seats, emblems, etc.).

However, the current restoration of #1120262 (ex- Rod Stewart's Roadster) is terribly WRONG, in my opinion.

Hi all. I'm new to the forum. I've been reading this thread and over years of study on the LP400 I've come to the conclusion that no Countach, save for the LP500, ever had anything less than a 2500mm wheelbase. I have no access to any cars but photos are incredibly useful if you have at least one key piece of data. Here it is:

The overall rim diameters. The LP400 has JJ flange profile 14" rims and the LP400s, and later, all have J profile 15" rims. This means the LP400 should have an overall rim diameter of 391.6mm (15.417") and the LP400s and later have overall diameters of 416mm (16.378"). These should have a tolerance of +-1mm.

I would also be very interested to know what the front/rear overhangs are on the LP400 and the later cars. Lambocars.com gives 933/757mm respectively for the LP400, while the first production spec sheet gives 910/780mm. I know with absolute certainty that that 780mm rear is wrong. I do, however, believe that 910mm forward is probably correct without the slightly thicker "bumper" (the prepro car had the near flush version which wouldn't extend the length at all considering it's at about a 40 deg angle).

My feeling is this... I think the 2450wb and 933/757mm overhangs originate with the original LP500 design cutaway. I believe the 780mm rear overhang on the 74' spec sheet was wrong based on the wheelbase being too short. I suspect the rear overhang to be closer to 740mm on the actual production cars and the front to be probably 910mm to the tip of the deck lid.

I also believe that the LP500 had a 2450mm wb with a f/r overhang of 910/740mm for a total length of 4100mm, not 4010mm (typo). Perhaps the production LP400 was the same, only with 2500mm wb for a length of 4200mm (the same occasionally given for the Anniversary car)?

Any thoughts anyone? Anybody with manuals that may clarify any of this?

    Correction about my previous post:
I don't know if #1120004 is in Italy or in the USA... I meant to write it for #1120262, being restored in Italy.

About Rockin' Rod's ex-1120262, Mardikian's Roadster conversion is greedily being destroyed to bring it back to its original LP400 guise... but surely leaving it LHD...

Wow that's a lot of work. Thanks for the photos. Do you have a link showing the actual restoration in progress?
You don't sound terribly impressed that the car's being taken back to Periscopa form! Maybe you and RS himself might be the only ones a bit distraught at the thought?

This year in october i saw #1120262 at Top Motors. Looks great!
I bought in 2014 the rear wing of #1120262 in Paris. It was funny to see this car in person with the point that the old wing of it is hanging in my apartment.
