Yes I agree with you on the warranty void issue. But they don't like arguing about customer modifications so they discourage it. I really don't blame them. It's just business.

Lol! Yes, and that's where I'm going to end up one day! Can't help myself, though, it's just too tempting so I always have to have at least one go at seeing how fast it will go.

on a different topic, can anyone please tell me what the decal says on the 458 caliper?
I see that it says "Ferrari" but what is printed below that? Thanks.

Wow, that set of affirmations is absolutely unaccurate and misinformative, basically every bit is not true. I understand the indignation of some members, I feel the same way. That is just some tech trying to scare the typical owner who is not much into cars or technical matters.

I understand what Mayor says about Ferrari preferring owners not to mess with the cars, but that's why Ferrari SpA as well as most other manufacturers simply stay quiet about these aftermarket matters. By staying silent they a) to some extent get what they want and b) don't lie, otherwise they could get into legal trouble.

So basically in a few months' time Ferrari will lower the 458 by an inch or so, they will save some weight from as many parts as possible, punch up the engine another 50 HP more, and will happily start selling the 458 Scud with factory warranty and all.

I'm going to lower my 458. My question would be by how much? I thinking of lowering mine .75" to 1". I don't want to go too low were it will effect my clearance.

Can we see more pics of cars that are lowered and can you post how much you lowered them by?

I do not believe ANY change cannot be used by Ferrari to (attempt to) void warranty. If anyone is so certain I am wrong, get the gaurantee in WRITING. Then post it here. I assure you we will NEVER see it. Not wishing harm to anyone, but buyer beward. Best

I think the problem is they legally cannot condone it or even be seen as giving a "wink" to it. In the case of lowering, this my violate the bumper height regulations or effect crash standards.

Other things such as exhaust changes may effect emissions or noise regulations.

The manufactures have lists and lists of regulations they have to follow.

I think it has to do more about lawyers than what is best for the car or customer.

My Dealer has always lowered every modern Ferrari I've had. They've never threatened or warned about the possibility of a voided warranty. In fact they've said otherwise.

I understand the information from the previous post from the Parts and Service Director....however our Master Tech is a Challenge Series driving instructor and he tells me otherwise. So who really knows. I've just had my Spider lowered and have had a few pics forwarded. I'm hesitant to post them as they look soooooo good that you might all run out and start lowering your cars! ;)

    I agree.

Personally, I would not lower mine but I think it's no biggie to lower a car an inch and have any negative "engineering" issue.

I strongly dislike the people who consider themselves purists.

Thanks for defending the ability to lower even a Ferrari, if so desired. Just shows that some people will say crap to the uninformed hoping to find followers to prop themselves up as experts. I don't own a Ferrari yet. But when I get one, I will lower it just like I've lowered every other car I've owned.

Without reading seven pages of thread, spanning six years of innovation, what's the solution for lowering the 458?

    Novitech sport springs?

The stock shocks are adjustable. Simple for your dealer to make the adjustment.

It's actually rather annoying that Ferrari dealers are so anti-modding considering Ferrari Challenge cars are lowered and have modified exhaust....among other mods for track performance.

I recently took my 458 to Silicon Valley Ferrari for my annual service and they referenced my aftermarket lowering and exhaust multiple throughout my service paperwork and actually blamed the modifications for a couple minor issues I was having. Somewhat disturbing given my investment and active commitment to the brand.

Any any rate, back on topic, I love the stance that the Novitec springs give the 458 along with wheel spacers. I was also happy the dealer installed them :)

So you did speciale wheels +1/2" compared to Italia wheels and spacers ? Looks great with the Novitec drop. I did speciale wheels, but no spacers. I think your car looks great by the way.

Novitec springs are the way to go. Customers prefer the ride over the factory springs. You can order a set here Novitec Sport Spring Kit - Ferrari 458 Italia - Exotica-Motorsports

There is no point comparing a street car to a purpose built race car. Challenge cars or any race car are built this way from scratch and made for racing on tracks only by the factory.

Yep, I also added spacers to the already more aggressive offset on the Speciale wheels which filled the wheel well perfectly.

Obviously there is no comparison but the general "frowned upon" treatment for Ferrari performance mods by dealers is such a prehistoric way to treat customers who choose to make upgrades given today's technology advancements.

I'm confident that a stock Italia versus my car on the track would clearly illustrate my point.

To be fair its not just Ferrari, BMW are just as bad with my M4... The slightest hit of aftermarket (Including coding mods for specific features and functions) are meet with the "voided warranty" statement at my dealer!
