After checking every bulb, fuse, relay, flasher, connector and socket I could find, I finally rechecked connectors. Sure enough, the 3 pin connector that slides into the tail light socket had one of the pins bent in an accordion fashion at it's base. Subsequently that pin was shorter than the others causing the hyper flashing. Hard to see. Easy to miss. Needle nose pliers put it right. I undoubtedly bent it installing a Sig Ing 'burnt out bulb/transmission lockup preventor'. (If you have an f1 you may want to look into it.) What's odd is the turn signals operated properly for several hundred miles before going into hyper flash. 'Thank you' to all who gave so generously of their time and expertise to help.

Great post! Is hyper flashing what happened to me today? All of a sudden my turn signal started flashing extra fast - it's never done this before in the 9 years I've owned the car.

Glad you found it and it worked out without having to expend a lot of money at a repair shop. Just proves that the simple things can really have an effect on our cars.

Great find. I know how you feel after spending 3 months diagnosing my hyperflash.

er.. by the way... I'm not saying it would have helped in your case, but filling out your car details in your profile via the "User CP" button and keeping all the information in one or two message threads really helps respondents and will help other users in the future ;)

Hyper (or double speed) flashing can be caused by many things. Fortunately, the expensive flasher relays/modules don't break down so often. Usually the problem is caused by a blown bulbs, rusty bulb holders or loose/corroded earth bolts. We can now add pushed back pins to the list :)
