What's the concern with these cars? Oil starvation? What's the draw back?
I had a 2005 DB9 for a few years in 2008-2010 or so and had no problems with her that I can recall. Was never stranded or had anything fail.
I saw a 2013 db9 recently and i have to say, it looks pretty good. did they change the style from 2005?
There have been changes. But there are a lot of Volantes of a 2005 vintage w 20-30k miles in nice condition for 50k or so. Seem like a real sweet price.
FWIW - you might want to peruse this book before you buy? I just ordered it myself: "The Definitive Guide to Gaydon Era Aston Martins". The Aston Martin forum on PistonHeads.com raved that it's a must-read for anyone considering a DB9/DBS/Vanquish, etc… from 2005 and on. I agree with your opinion of prices. Are you comparison shopping the Astons to any other makes/models? Maserati Grandturismo's appeared to me to be in a similar price range and offer similar specs, seating, styling.
Great cars...but 2005 is the first year. 2005 and 2006 cars are plentiful and do not seem to hold value as well as newer cars. No significant issues; however they need regular maintenance like any exotic/premium vehicle. There is a potential issue with early DB9s (and DB7 Vantages) where overheating can cause internal damage that results in a "tick" that may be related to lifters, piston slap, etc. Well maintained cars will have no issue. Some think that this is oil related, but indications are that it originates from plugged radiators, etc. Also, some early cars had paint adhesion problems that resulted in bubbles around door handles and perhaps some other areas. A comprehensive PPI is always worthwhile. I own a 2007 Volante with a manual transmission. Love it... When I first purchased my 05 DB9 seven years ago I was waiting for something to break terribly wrong. I'm still waiting and no longer worry about it. It's more durable than I expected and held up quite well.
Yes. I like the maserati grand tourismo s. Have a CC maserat coupe that's a freakin blast. I'd love to chat w someone whose had a newer GT Mazer in comparison to a DB9. The mazer seem light years better in the interior and V12 or no---the hp is quite close. Thoughts anyone?
The Maserati is a nice way to enjoy a Ferrari V8 on a budget....but maintenance is still expensive. I would imagine that folks who own one do enjoy them. And, if I was starting my collection now, I would personally consider a 3 pedal Maserati Spyder GT. The Aston DB9 IS a V12. That's part of the experience. I think it was Jay Leno who said "everyone should experience a V12 at least once in their life". I believe he said something similar about driving an Aston... Not sure you can really compare the two. It's more of a preference and deciding what features are most important.
