The time value of money used to mean something....it doesn't anymore especially for people who don't have enough money or desire to get in the stock market. They can't make jack in a savings account or a CD. It takes way too much time to make money these days.

Interesting, you don't track your car but you love an engine characteristic with a small torque peak over 6k rpm's and a red line at 9k; definitely the ideal conditions for public roads.

Yes, I track my Scud with a lot of fund, but in the long run this "chainsaw behavior" is annoying. Therefore for the public road I take my old V12 Ferrari with power at reasonable engine speeds, makes much more fun...

Its quaility over quantity ;). I would have paid for the speciale and had the car I wanted. The 488 is still a great car though, enjoy it.

I tracked my '04 Porsche 911 GT3 many times a Limerock and once at Watkins Glen. I plan to track my 458 occasionally when I can get into an unmuffled track day at Limerock or at the new track at Palmer Motorsports. I will be black flagged at LRP with their current noise restrictions. To be honest...if I were to track a lot, I would rather have a Porsche. I don't plan to beat the snot out of my 458 at the track. The beauty of the 458 is that it is ten times the fun of a GT3 on the street.

Or you never know what tomorrow brings and you might as well enjoy what you truly want. But the 488 is a beast, who knows, you may end up just waiting for the 488 speciale version.

Palmer is having noise issues of its own....reports are they are at risk of being shut down if they don't mitigate the problem....while I don't necessarily believe that those are the reports....

For straight speed, hp is crucial. But for track speed, there are many other factors.

I'm sure the 488 is a dynamite car , I'm just not seeing the difference in money meaning 150k $ better than my 458 spider . Now the difference between my 430 to the 458 I did feel it was worth 150 k more. IMHO .

Well it all depends if you want to go with the newer better technology. Nothing wrong with the 458 nor the 430. Still looks great to date.

There will always be something faster. How about I arrange a drag race for your 488 against my friend in Houston with a street legal Ford GT with 2400hp? smh

Me too. I cannot justify $400K+ for one car. I don't have that kind of coin nor would I spend it if I did.

I sometimes wonder how people round here drive there Ferraris. You're going to feel the extra performance every time you charge hard out of a bend.

I WAS going to sat "I've never wished for less power in a car..."

But at 2400 it could happen. That's a whole freaking lot.

Only really at speeds you'd be going on the track.

But once when you do have that kind of coin then the $400k would be very justifiable like how you have justified your current car. Keep at it you will make it justifiable :)

It's the opposite. The extra torque is even more appreciated on the street where taking off from a standstill and short bursts of acceleration are common experiences. Experiencing redline on a 458 is likely a more of an occasional treat.

I'm not sure I agree. 0-60 times are only .2 seconds different between the 458 and 488. For those short bursts, the difference between the two cars would be within those two tenths. Plus, torque is limited in the lower gears in the 488, so the power difference isn't as great. Can you honestly feel the difference in .2 seconds?

Accelerating from 50-120+ is another story. That's where the extra torque and horsepower makes a much bigger difference, and that is what I meant by you'd only really notice the extra power on the track.
