What was wrong with your original oil pan?

Looks like the newer oil pan is from a 5000S. I'd be interested to know how similar the measurements are between the two.

Were you easily able to remove the windshield without any damage to it?
What is your time frame for such a thorough restoration?

HLA12144 will be black/black with golden rims. The rims where original gold but a previous owner was spraying them silver. I like the black/black/gold combination but you are right there are fantastic colors available.

The DD was also black/black/gold. As the DD will not have a matching numbers engine I am thinking about painting it with a more special color. I like very much the orange from the Italian Job Miura.

The pinion drive snapped off from the prop shaft. The fracture face is looking like from a torsional fatigue failure. I do not know if this a common problem.
All involved parts were damaged. The breaking occurred probably at high speed.

Good eye, the oil pan is from a 5000S. But it is not new. The former owner was just glass bead blasting the oil pan (very bad idea).

I will post as soon as we have analysed the results from the CMM measuring. But it looks like the factory or sub supplier machining was not so precise...

We were able to remove the windshield without any damage to it. But you need to be very very careful not to damage it. There is always a risk of failing.

I have so far no time frame for this restoration. My goal is to reach the best result. The time effort is secondary.

Actually I am restoring three Countachs at the same time. There is also a 5000S.

The difference is most likely only the extract for the low pressure oil pump.

The factory machined the pieces themselves.

The fenders are back on the car. The light housing is installed for checking and correcting the the shape and the gaps. I want to use a minimum of filler.

I bought the cars in Florida and the DD was suffering from fire damage. I am not sure about the history of the 5000S but the chassis is in need of serious structural repair. Do you know something about the history or are you just asking?

Wow is right. I remember all three. The DD was stripped pretty good. Have you sourced another engine for it?

I have sourced many parts to build an new engine but I am still missing the block.
Every input about the availability of an engine block in any condition is very very welcome.

Certainly impressive Daniel. Your doing amazing work! Chad or George Evan might have a block or know where one is.

70% of the back clip of the DD were gone. The middle part and the front clip were excellent. The structural repair is already finished and the chassis is now better than new. We have added a lot of welds Marchesi & Co forgot to do during the production in the year 1985...

But more about this DD project later on. The FI has priority.

Thank you so much for posting these photos! Fantastic work!

I know what you mean about the tubes! When my engine was out for a clutch replacement, they found a rusted tube on mine too! The were able to fix it quite easily too.

Amazing the lack of rust prevention used on cars back in the day!!!

Wow. These are more than a restoration, they represent a re-manufacture! Bravo.

I think the chassis made by Marchesi & Co for the Countach were better in the 80s because Mimram was willing to pay more for them. In general, the Countach has one of the stiffest & most durable chassis from the tube-frame era. Frankly it resembles that of the iconic Porsche 917K.

This is unbelievable that the burnt QV is going to be properly resurrected. AMAZING amount of commitment... Again, HATS OFF.
