Can the new owner remove the black wrap and put a clear protective wrap on it so the bare carbon fiber can at least be seen and enjoyed while still being protected?

We are all assuming so that the carbon fiber underneath is laid in a pattern that would be visually pleasing without the wrap. To set the carbon fiber like Pagani or Bugatti with the panels having the appearance of a smooth flowing pattern in the fabric takes exponentially more labor and skill. Paint hides the direction of the fibers, seams and folds, etc. Maybe it is like that, maybe it is not. I bet that if we saw an F 50 without paint it would look pretty disappointing. Heck even some of them I've seen look like gauze with fingernail polish.

We also don't know what type of epoxy that was used. I remember in 2004 seeing a brand new Carrera GT on the showroom floor of Herb Chambers in Boston and the venturi pieces were already yellowing.

I know they make a non glare Tru View UV protection for posters and art. I'm sure they can make one for a car.

As an aside, I find it hard to imagine wrapping a car saves 14 pounds over painting it. Has someone actually measured the weight of the paint, once it's cured, noting much of what is sprayed evaporates in the curing process?

Also, a great paint job is a work of art. A wrap is a wrap. Personally, call me old school, but I prefer paint that has that deep look over a car that looks like it is still in primer, generally speaking. But I am old school and no doubt this stealth 918 will find a lovely garage to reside in. GLWS

Not exactly. But I have weighed a bare tub, the same tub wrapped, and the same tub painted. (This was a race car cf tub.) If i recall correctly a 1 layer paint job was lighter than a wrap. A wrap was lighter than a nice (primer and multilayer) paint job. But it's been a couple of years.

I admit the car looks very cool but wouldn't it look just as cool if it was a painted 918 with a mat black wrap?
Crazy money for a car with a wrap

    Thank you!
You are not buying into the 'look' you are buying into the fact this was how the car was delivered from the factory.... Factory no paint and lightweight nomex seats!
    Thank you!

Such a sick car. Just the thought of owning it and knowing no other 918 is as light as yours would be great. Now if only is was half the price.....

I should have got one when they came out. 😑

I have seen and been in a matte black car and to me the car was ugly. Does not show the lines at all. I understand beauty is in the eyes of the beholder but my eyes see only ugly. Sorry! and at double the original price, never going to happen.

Was it this one or the one in England? I believe there's literally only two that left the factory without paint and just this matte black wrap.

Also they recommend replacing the wrap every few years. I'm sure in a couple years time if you so chose you could send it to Porsche and have it painted.
