it's not a crock, it's just very complex. You are fed an agenda by the media, which reflects either their opinions or what they think the majority of their audience wants to believe. Either way, it's simplistic BS.

The Saud family, just another bunch of warlords, got control when the Ottoman Empire crumbled and remain a hereditary monarchy, which is contrary to Islamic ideology. They propogate a fundamentalist Wahabi version of Islam - which keeps the mullahs happy and the mullahs keep the population subdued. Sometimes the mullahs incite the wrong team, hence 911.

I recommend reading "The Arabs" by Eugene Rogan. The history of Islamic conquest and rulers explains a lot of the dysfunction of the Middle East to this day.

The Sauds were in control a long time before oil, the Ottomans valued them for their ability to keep a large territory within their empire. Agree they've only survived because they can buy loyalty.

I'm not linking Saudis to 911, it is rather their funding of Madrassa (religious schools) across the region, and in particular Pakistan, that creates a pool of extremists. Bin Laden was able to provide employment (as mercenaries) and a purpose for disaffected young men, as ISIL/S do today. Al Qaeda faded when the money ran out, as will ISIL when the Turks are prevented from buying their oil. Then another group will pop up - extreme religion is a bottomless well of evil.
