I tried chilli with beans. Don't like beans texture, so it was only o.k.

Tonight, its a new restaurant. My furnace is going wacky. Even on low heat, it runs full blast. Heats rooms too hot. Concerned about fire hazard. House was built in 1992 and the furnace is original. I don't like being cold, but don't want a fire either. Solution turn it off and get a hotel, until I get repair people in. The restaurant is attached to the best hotel in town, the Best Western.

    Lazy way to do fish,
Salt pepper lemon slice on top, bake in oven until it flakes. Works for most!

Some call it the 'lazy way' but it is a reliable method. Instead of a lemon slice, a drizzle of fresh lemon juice along with a bit of melted butter (unsalted) for moi is heaven. With a delicate fish/fillet the key is not to over season.

Sounds like what I did xmas day. I also made a corn/avocado chimichurri sauce for over the top after baking.

That sauce sounds great. I saw recipes for avocado chimichurri online. You use those and then add some corn, cut fresh from the cob? Mmm.

^ Hurray! Rapini? Heard of it, never on pizza though. Looks great.

Tonight was leftover fiesta. Needed to make room in freezer for a brisket from Franklin's. I even ate a microwaveable TV dinner (mother in law refused to eat it) for the first time in dog years. Cheese enchiladas. Spanish rice. Even with a healthy dose of Tabasco sriracha, blech.

On the bright side, I made some ginger miso soup for the coming week. This recipe

    http://m.cookingchanneltv.com/recipes/ching-he-huang/ginger-miso-seafood-broth.html

I like it because it's very flexible with the ingredients. For example, tonight I replaced the tofu with brown rice, because I had some in the pantry. Tastes great with Tabasco East Asian sauce.

Changed plans. Despite turning off the heat, the house stayed comfortable. Upper 40's outside. So far tonight its only dropped to 39 outside. Plan is blast heat until toasty, turn it off. So no hotel.

Brother likes the French Canadian bistro place. We'll be hitting that tonight for Montreal smoke meat sandwiches and soup.

Looks pretty amazing!! I had to look up rapini, I've always heard it called broccoli raab.

Dave inspired me and I've got a tri-tip finishing up in the oven. I don't think I've tried tri-tip more than once or twice. Hope it turns out well. Made a nice onion mushroom sauce to go with it. Will report back after I eat a bit. :)

Well it came out pretty tasty. I did a marinade of creamy horseradish with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Rubbed it on and let the meat sit for awhile. Heated a cast iron skillet in the oven while the potato was cooking. Seared the meat then threw it in the oven for about 25 minutes. Let it rest for a bit then sliced it up.

First without the mushroom sauce and then with it. Had a nice Zenato Valpilocella to go with it. Good dinner. :)

Montreal smoke meat is very common here. Its a good meat. I forget the bread choices, but the one I did was some artisan type. You also get several choices of amounts of meat up to 1lb for the sandwich. They give 20 choices for side dishes, multiple fries types, etc.

Since its a small town 45minutes east of Vancouver, most of our restaurants are mediocre to good. I put them in the very good category for our town, in Vancouver it would be just good. A few tweaks and it could be excellent.

I'm thinking about tackling pesto sauce (homemade), on linguine and add some chicken.

Make sure you grill the chicken. I think that adds that little something.

Use pesto as a marinade on the chicken before grilling. Even better. One of my favorite summer grilling recipes is pesto marinated pork loin roast grilled on real charcoal. I also like using it on chicken too. Nice charred pesto is great.

Marinade that's a good plan will do. Nice thing about my grill its plugged into the house gas supply. Never have to worry about running out. Especially nice in winter.
