Off to Safeway in the USA. To show expensive groceries are in BC, even with the exchange, every U.S dollar is $1.42 Canadian, most stuff is even to Canadian prices or save a little. Things like chicken breasts, I still save several dollars, same with beef. I buy a lot of 2liter pops. In Canada, with the environment fee, recycling fee, etc, they are around $2.25 per bottle, with exchange they are .97 cents each. Save $2 on milk and almost $3 on chocolate milk. Even though the customs agents hate it, buying cigarettes at duty free, even taxes and duty being charged at the border. I save mega. Two packs of cigarettes in Canada are $20.24, ten packs in a carton. American carton is $30 CDN.

Tonight is going to be rice and steaks.

Actually was trying to get it to brown a bit more and left it in a tad too long. Those were the best pieces out of the middle, the ends were more done. Was about 140 degrees when I pulled it out, shoulda been about 130. But it was still very tasty.

That's pretty wild. I quit smoking years ago when I couldn't find a carton for less than $30. Obviously duty free doesn't charge WA taxes. I think they are about $10 per pack here in a normal store now aren't they.

When I lived in Fargo, folks would drive down from Winnipeg to shop, which is about 200 miles of the flattest land around.

Tonight, we're having the ginger miso soup that I posted the recipe of a while back. With home made garlic bread...T

Yeah you really have to watch ground poultry. People think...well it's chicken it's healthy. Some of the ground chicken/turkey can have more fat than a good lean ground beef.

I like making wraps or cups or whatever you want to call them like that. I prefer romaine lettuce but those look really tasty. Need some hot sauce splashed on top too. :)

No state tax on duty free items. You need to be out of Canada 48 hrs for the cigarettes to be duty free at the border. Even with duty and Canadian taxes, its still a lot cheaper. Customs hates when I declare cigarettes when its under 48hrs. Some don't bother collecting the duty though.

Turkey burgers. I added an egg and some breadcrumbs, since they've disintegrated on me in the past, to bind them. Cooked on a griddle on a grill. Served with broccoli and cranberry sauce from a can (I've paid my dues, making it from scratch before!). And, a great Beaujolais. Thank you to nerofer for encouraging me to explore the wines of the Beaujolais region other than nouveau! Pic below. It was a 2009. Enjoyed it muchly.

Got grilled coming back this way one time after a couple buddies and I cruised up to Vancouver just to party a bit and come home late the next day. For some reason they thought we were up to no good!?! :)

They should be used to it. 19 to 20 year olds in WA come up by the 100's to party on the weekends.

I've been hassled by both sides. I cross sometimes twice per week, so I know most of the agents on both sides.

^ My Porsche was strip searched at the Canadian border. North of Duluth. To be fair, the Americans did likewise upon my return. I think they just wanted to check out my sexy ride! ;)
Pizza tonight. Cheating - pre-made dough. Toppings undecided...T

My most fun at the border. We had an office in Seattle mid 90's. The office tower has a Starbucks in the lobby. Id grab a Starbucks and go outside for a cigarette. As a result I got to know the Starbucks people. One of the girls would come out for a smoke with me, a lot of the time. One day, she was all depressed. Her boyfriend spent all their rent money on heroine. She needed to sell her car fast. Asked what kind of car. Said 1970 Karmann Ghia. I then asked how much. She says well I'm $300 short for rent. I say I'll give you $300 for it. She said yes. Crossed the street to the ATM. She went and got the title. I gave her the $300 and she told me the location of the car. Picked it up latter that afternoon.

Decided to take it to my uncles. They searched it at the border. The glove box was frozen shut. Customs needed to pry it open. They told me as a courtesy. Back of my head I'm freaking, car was owned by an heroine addict! Luckily nothing in the glove box.

Think I might make Carbonara for dinner tonight. Found some bucatini and have the guanciale that I ordered. Worked last night and back in this morning for meaningless training so will have the evening tonight to do as I please. Carbonara and good bottle of wine sounds like a decent evening. :)

Sure looked that way for most of the trip! Across the Pigeon River from Grand Portage, Minnesota. I think they were bored at a sleepy little border crossing. And, we were the entertainment. I had the same thought run through my head that Z did - "I bought this car used, in Houston, who knows what the heck the previous owner did with it!"

Pizza toppings decided - Hawaiian (spam, pineapple, etc.) And veggie. How's that for diametrically opposed!

LOL. Hey Greggg: I saw that in a story I was reading online, and liked it so much, I had to use it. Need to get one of those "word of the day" calendars, so I can more effcetively enunciate a panoply of verbiage!

OK, back to work, and then pizza making…T
