Pretty high price for that high mileage (210K EUR, 250K km) Porsche 930 3.0 TURBO als Sportwagen/Coupé in Wuppertal But quite a seller, claims to have 40 3.0 Turbos: https://www.classicdriver.com/en/article/cars/only-porsche-has-more-porsches-manfred-herings-passion-early-911s
Car was offered to me for $70,000 in 6/14 from the 4th owner, for whatever reason it had a later style tail at the time but was otherwise complete - I followed up with interest but he went radio silent. Two weeks later I was visiting Jeff at European Collectibles and saw the car there. Apparently they purchased the car, put a tail on it, and it was subsequently sold in the $100k range. Looks like everyone is making money on this car. His original message to me: "Hello-I have enjoyed looking at your superb 911 up for auction on e-bay. In your notes, you state that you are a collector, most interested in 356's and 930's. I have owned my 1977 930 for 30 years, and am now going to sell it. I am 70 years old and have had both hips replaced, and find it very difficult to get into the Porsche and operate the clutch. I am the 4th owner of the Porsche, and it is mostly an original car. The engine was completely rebuilt within the last 5 years, and has less than 1,000 miles on it. The Porsche 930 has been confirmed with PCNA as a numbers matching car, with a 'special order' paint, Casablanca Beige. If you or any of your contacts are interested in a '77 930, have them or you contact me before I put it on e-bay or consignment. Best Wishes--" and a follow up when he sent photos "No, I do not have the original tail. The 1978 type tail was on the car when I bought it. I don't know if this was also special ordered. I have located several '77 tails on e-bay or dismantlers, but they are $3,500. I don't want to make that purchase at this time. For the most part, the Porsche is original and in good condition: original carpet, door panels, dash, headliner, sport seats, etc. The exterior is straight and rust free. Again, the PCNA confirmed that the car is 'engine and VIN matching', and was 'special order' paint, Casablanca Beige'. The paint is in #2 to #3 condition. Mechanically, the 930 is in very good condition: total engine rebuild ($13,000), new fuel pumps, transmission service, hood and deck struts, etc. I also have many of the original registrations for the car, dating back to 1977. The plastic gloves and plastic sheet were factory items. The Fuch wheels look great, and the Pirelli tires have only 1,000 miles on them. I just wanted to give you this information, and we can talk later at your convenience. The old "look" of the car doesn't appear to "look" like it was a 50K mile car. With the sprucing up they did, it looks more correct inside and out. That said, the engine nor undercarriage looks like a 50k mile car either. Patrick, did he say how many miles were on the car?
I don't remember how many miles were on car, seemed like a few, car was pretty beat up but all there. Phil
Hello, do you know where the number on photo no 7 is located? I have not seen that before.... Thanx. Cal Gesendet von meinem C6903 mit Tapatalk
Phil, Do you say that because COA says Metallic paint to sample and it appears to be non metallic I assume? COA also says: Interior to sample. The interior color looks like a rather simple dark brown. Was that a interior to sample color? Does anyone know off-hand of other colors that were "interior to sample"? I am super curious about that.
Could be a mistake on the COA (metallic) as the paint looks original around the paint tag and VIN decal (photo below from the ad, paint tag 132-9-1). Here's a Pelican post with the same PTS color, 132-9-1...Elfenbein. Pelican Parts Technical BBS - View Single Post - show me your 77 911 colors. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Rich, I agree - I did not find pic of paint tag. The interior looks dark brown to me as well which would be code 93. Nice color on a turbo. Phil
My 75 has a special wishes interior in "gelb" or yellow. From what I understand, it is not a true bright yellow but rather a tan with yellow in it.
The paint to sample thing is kind of interesting, at least to pinheads like us- that designation of PTS was to cover many different things- 1. An "optional" or special order color 2. A color that had been previously been available- the turbo with paint 132 code is an example of that. 3. A color that another manufacturer has used 4. True PTS where an owner would send an object to Porsche and say paint my car this color- Porsche would custom blend a paint and paint car that color and assign a code, these are one off cars- I have a 77 like this, figuring out correct color has been a b*tch One could special order interiors materials, colors, patterns etc as well- Porsche did one off "specials" for family and friends of family - seems like these always had one off interiors. I saw same car at EC just after they picked it up- what they were able to do with paint was impressive, I thought the seats has been recovered an no longer matched rest of interior but it looks much better now. Phil[/QUOTE] phil what did they have to do to the paint?
Geez these cars just seem to be a money magnet, add some after market stripes, clean up the motor/ trim, add a bamberg/clock and throw it back on the block. Sad to see these cars hustled but its a definitely a business now.
Yup, it sure does feel like a lot of people are after the quick cash, quick flip. Another consideration is that almost everything that has been coming to market is junk. Where are the REAL true original cars. The real garage queens. Not cars that have been re-sprayed, re-conditioned, no history, clocks turned back and so on. Either there are very few of those out there, the owners aren't parting with their loves or they are trading fast and quietly behind the scenes. Another question: if everything that has had a boob job is selling at $200k+, whats the price of the great, original example car with history valued at?
My 1976 guards red 930 had interior to sample. After extensive research all the way back to the original owner, I leaned that my interior to sample color was white with blue carpets. Like the American flag as 1976 was the Bi-Centennial of the United States.

The answer to your second paragraph is all three: very few out there, owners aren't parting with good ones for the most part, and those that are being sold are selling quickly behind the scenes. To the next question, it depends on so many different variables as you know: color, year, condition, miles, originality, documentation, etc. I've seen strong premiums for 75s with 76s next and then 77s. The % differences from year to year seem to be significant.
