A big change at McLaren

Jonathan Neale, the acting CEO of McLaren Racing, has been appointed CEO of the entire McLaren Technology Group, and Jost Capito, Volkswagen’s Director of Motorsport, has been appointed CEO of McLaren Racing, supported by Racing Director Eric Boullier, who will work closely with both Jonathan and Jost. The timing of these change is yet to be settled as Capito must work out a settlement with his current employer.

 

Woah...

Yep; saw this today on "Autosport" site; I must say that the constant shuffle of Directors at McLaren is rather puzzling...

To clarify- saw the news release from McLaren - looks like Ron is still the main guy - chariman etc... he is the one who brought in these two guys... M Boullier look out. perhaps time to go to Renault

 

I've no idea what the delineations of authority even are amongst all these different directors. Sometimes it just comes across as a PR gimmick to try to reassure potential sponsors that they're being proactive amidst their misery on track. And McLaren are my second favourite team too.

Rather odd indeed, could it be too many chiefs and not enough Indians or just poor management decisions? It seems the constant shuffling of managers and directors does not allow one to get a firm grasp of the task ahead of them? F1 is no different than any other business and may require more than 1 or 2 or even 5 years to meld. Rant over.

 

Ron sucks and he knows it!!!!

 

So Bouillier is above, below or next to Capito? All this ronspeak is confusing.

 

Capito is replacing Jonathan Neale as CEO of McLaren Racing. This does nominally make him Boullier's boss, but I would expect the latter to retain day-to-day responsibility for running the F1 team. I doubt Eric is in trouble at all; I think he's done an amazing job to hold the team together through a very trying season largely brought on by Honda. The most interesting comment on Joe's piece was the one about whether this move might be aimed at outflanking Red Bull's attempts to cultivate VW as an F1 power unit supplier...

 

VW are facing Lawsuits that could result in fines in excess of $18Billion in the USA alone (Volkswagen facing fines worth billions as US DoJ files lawsuit over emissions cheating scandal | Business | London Evening Standard ), plus who knows how many more $Billions throughout the rest of the World, so I can't see them entering F1 any time soon!

 

Not soon, but not never either...

 

Nothing to see here imo. Neale was not meant to do this in the first place. Surprised he had to do it for so long actually.

 

If Honda engines are not competitive, it doesn't matter who's in charge!

 

+1 senior management could also face US legal issues as well. F1 is not a priority or in the press here as a future project currently.

 

Don't underestimate the s:censored:t that VW are in! - Currently, "never" is far more likely than "ever"!

 

Ron is trying to figure out why he is less popular than Alonso.

 

Hope it does not take him long; the new season is almost here.
