E-Diff Warning Light

Is it possible that the E-Diff light could be activated by cold temps. No problems before and we have driven in the 25-35 degree temp range a couple of tomes in the last 2 weeks.
2007 F1 430 Spider.

 

Check the F1 fluid level and make sure it is not low. F1 fluid should be changed and bled every 3 years, something Ferrari did not figure out until the 599. Especially true for Ferraris with E-Diff.

Incidentally, all you F430 3 pedal owners know you have an F1 pump, too, right?

 

Yes and not overly happy about it! Sold my 360 F1 but still have an F1 pump!

 

Glen- All but early F430s share an F1 pump with the 599, and those have proven very reliable. Just remember to change out your F1 fluid regularly.

 

Have them check the e- diff solenoid....

 

Are there more than one solenoid? I have been told regular (preferably annual) Ediff fluid changes help, but solenoid replacement can be considered a "consumable" that just has to be done every few years...

 

I just had the e-diff solenoid (control valve) replaced on my 430. First I was getting yellow, then red e-diff warning. A pricy "consumable" part at closet to $900. All good now😒

 

Thanks, mines an '07, only had it a few months and had the F1 fluid done right away and will do every 3 years as advised. Actually lets call it an E-diff pump, might stop the F1 gremlins I had on the 360!

I think he means if u go eom from the dealer its like 15k job....I think the rebuilt ones are like 2k.

 

To your original question, no, cold weather by itself will not trigger any F1 warnings. Something is wrong. As above change the fluid 1st. The mobile fully synthetic auto trans fluid works flawlessly. I do mine yearly along with all other fluids.

 

And that is a lot cheaper than the Tutela CS Speed I use.

I'm going through the same thing with mine right now. Dealer will tell you to replace 2 things; the pressure switch, and the solenoid. Its almost always the solenoid.

Tip: You can rule out the pressure switch yourself. The dealer wants $700 just for the part, but its just a standard Bosch sensor that is also used as a fuel pressure switch on a BMW 3-series Diesel, same part number! Ferrari just re-boxes it and charges oodles of money. I got one for $160 and the install is very easy to do yourself. You will (most likely) see that the E-diff warning has not cleared, but it is a very inexpensive way to appease your dealer when you tell them to replace just the solenoid and nothing else, because you've already replaced the pressure switch yourself.

No problem. For those looking for this info, the Bosch part number on this pressure switch is 13537788164, which has recently been superseded by 13537812345. Either one will work, they are the same part. You can walk into a BMW dealer with this part number, or order it directly from Bosch (sometimes even cheaper). Just don't get it from Ferrari!
