Does anyone have any information about any early 930 cars being delivered into Mexico? Mexico is not listed as a destination by paperwork I have seen Rich post in the past.

According to factory documentation that I have in my procession, my Viper / Emerald Green 1976 930 Turbo was delivered into Mexico via Messrs. Turbo Carrera which seems like a shell name to me. The attached letter was written to 3nd owner who I purchased this car from. He wrote to the factor in 1987 as he began building history on the car and this is what they replied to him with.

More data about the car is that the original owner name was Ernesto Soto.

I have tried my best to find or learn about Ernesto Soto who appears to be deceased.

One unconfirmed match is that there was an Ernesto Soto who raced Porsches in the late 1970s - mid 80's. He raced a 935 at Sebring but mostly raced Carrera RSR at Daytona, Sebring, Lemans, SIlverstone & Leguna Seca.

Here is his race career and pictures of a few cars he drove: Ernesto Soto (YV) - All Results - Racing Sports Cars

Seems like a strong and logical match but I just can't confirm it.

Are you going to put the safety graphics on? I think it is a very cool and rare period option.

Holy shiit Rich! I have no idea how you do it... That is truly amazing and I am beyond grateful for digging this up and posting. My car was complete in June of 1976. I would put the odds at almost 100% that your picture posted is my car.

    My car Vin is 9306700593

According to Ryan's Turbo Registry, the previous Viper Green 930 was a US car with Vin: 9306800505 which would have read Turbo Carrera as we all know and not Turbo as the one in your photo.

Jose, I would give a left pinky to have a car that came with those safety graphics. You must put them on if that's the way the car was delivered.

Hell, I have thought about buying a vinyl graphic that can go on and off the car just because it looks so retro and cool here! http://magnagrafik.com/WholeCatalogue.pdf

    Rich,

How long did it take from beginning to end for a car to be build and finished on the assembly line in Zuffenhausen?

Jamie, I think the car in the picture is not your car. If it is a May issue, the articles and pics were probably done in February or earlier.

    Yes - too early for Jamie's car...bummer.

The article does show 1976 model year's being assembled illustrated by the 930/52 wastegate and air pump.

From the same article...an Ice Green Metallic '76 Turbo. Note the protective plastic on the rear bumper and optional rear fog light.

Caption: "...a new Turbo is checked out to 200 k.p.h. on a rolling-road before a 100-km road test. Lesser models each have a 35 km road test."

Hi, I would like to know if anyone has experience of billy boat performance exhausts for 930s. Would you recommend and do they improve something ?

As far as I can tell most aftermarket exhaust systems are an improvement from a performance standpoint over the factory systems. I'd take a good look at the RarelyL8 products, good designs, Brain really stands behind his products.

No problem on the miss. Did your car have the metal or plastic grill ? The grill not shown in the pic. One off these days I hope someone offers the rubber lip again. They are nearly impossle to find in good condition

    Car looks great!

The May '76 Motor Sport photos may be late-75 or early ’76 as the article includes the 934 on the production line. There’s an interesting passage on the uncertain future of the Turbo with a quote from Manfred Jantke, head of Porsche’s public relations:

“The supposedly frail state of world finances is not affirmed by the remarkable success story of the 930 series Turbo. “It’s an engineer’s car, developed from a racer. We don’t want it!” was the embittered reaction of the sales department when confronted with this turbocharged super car to sell, we were told by Manfred Jantke, Porsche’s head of public relations. They’ve had to eat their words. Now this 155-m.p.h. machine represents 15 percent of total production with some 1,000 of them on the road a further production run of at least 600 planned. Only 400-off had been intended originally.”

Note: the 934 also had protective plastic on the rear bumper.

All '75 Turbos should have the plastic grill, change from the metall grill came from MY74 to MY75 for all 911, so it is very unlikely that the Turbos, production starting mid-MY 75, still got the metal version.

+1 – the dozen or so ’75 Turbos that left the factory in 1974 should also have the plastic grill. From Ryan’s book: “The plastic grill started being fitted May 31, 1974, with coupe 911 460 1012 and Targa 911 461 0411”

I've had a B&B 4.5" dual out exhaust on my 86 turbo along with their headers. The exhaust was loud as heck and would give me a giant headache with its 2k-3k resonance. I swapped it out for a single out GHL and it was much, much quieter, at the expense of some hp and more "mental" hp. The headers developed a crack at the collector and heater box that B&B repaired at no cost. They cracked again.
