It has been difficult few weeks deciding what to do, SAD to say I have to bite the bullet and convert my 1992 mondi T valeo to 5 speed manual. Why ??? Here at OZ , not may workshop has SD1, and some mechanics has no experience and the bad experience that I had so far, I'm looking long term its going to get more difficult if I have an issue, as older technician retire and the younger technician has no training on this type of cars. I would like to keep my Mondi for many years to enjoy with my 3 young boys, which at the moment it has not happened, I just want to take them for a long drive not worry what's going to happen next. Here's a list what I think I needed , I'm sure I must have missed something feel free to add to the list , please let me know. Parts Required 1, Pedal box 2, Clutch kit 3, Fly wheel, Release bearing 4, Bell housing Thank you all in advance Michael
Will need a slave cylinder as well. Have converted a BMW M3 auto to a 5spd before. The big thing is electronics. You may have to delete some ECU's and related wiring too.
Why ruin one of the rarest cars around? Sell the Valeo, and then buy a regular 5 speed model? Whatever you do, best to ya. Cheers, Hank
I understand your situation and I know you want to drive the car. I'm with Hanky for the trade. Sell yours and buy a 5 speed if possible. At least save ALL the parts with the car if you have to convert. Good luck with what you will decide.
Is a shame to convert. What is wrong that you have to convert? SD1 is convenient to have but not really necessary to diagnose. Just takes longer. Wish you were in the states, I could sort that out for you with no problem. Let me know if I can help, Maybe if you have a good tech there I can guide him? Let me know. Best regards, Jim McGee Pocono Sportscar Ex Ferrari North America technical department
I beg of you - - don't jump ship just because the waves seem unruly. Your car, being a Valeo coupe, is such a rarity, it begs of you to find the time, patience and "love", to search under every rock to find the answers needed to solve these issues. Believe me, If you lived in my neck of the woods, I would try to convince you to sell her to me. Best to ya, Hank
You will need a different transmission too (at least the size of transfer gears). This change will cost you more then a good repair. IMHO sell it and by a manuel T. I know it is frustrating not to be able to drive. I had transmission problems myself when I bought it and it took me over 3 months to get parts and get it more or less right. I recently bought an original clutch slave cylinder, which took me 3 years to find and still in pursue of an original fork. One idea is to get a DOS computer yourself and take this together with your Mondi to an F dealer. This is still the best place for fixing it as they have a "Classic Department" in Marenello on which they can rely on. Discuss this with them and set marks on how far they can go. Personally I would be there on some occassion when I do hook it up. This way you exactly know what they are doing. For you it is good so that you get to know the system. ...and we are here too, if not the 348 section Think about it if you still want to change. Keep your Valeo parts as a Valeu that has ben modified without original parts is worth close to nothing. Bests of thinking! Tijn
If your car was a LHD model I would seriously consider a trade for my super nice, award winning '90 348 ts.
You have one of the rarest Ferrari's out there. Trade for a normal 5 speed. I bet you can find someone in a minute that would trade you a perfect condition 5 speed for your valeo. Or sell it outright and then buy a 5 speed, I bet you can sell the Valeo for more than any normal 3 pedal Mondial. Only 18 in the states......
THIS is the deal you should take!!! A valeo is as rare as a blue F40!!! Don't butcher up the factory drivetrain. Sell it to someone in a wheelchair!!!
These kinds of posts should convince you as there are experts around the world here to help you fix it, or get you into a better newer car.. the 348 offer would have me on the phone, like right now....
Yeah but I'm pretty sure that Michael's Valeo Coupe is RHD, which makes it rarer still. Plus red too? That I can settle with. But hey, as suggested, there are trade opportunities availabilities.
Heart broken, confused, guys your support is beyond my believe. I can honestly feel the passion you have for your Mondial, and that I thank you all I can seat here reply to every post but I'll be here till midnight. I love the car as is just want to drive it, may be ill have to be little patient have one more try. I'll be in contact with another workshop as they claim to have SDI and valeo program last shot at it and my wife is going to kill me. I would keep you posted on progress. Thanks Again to all the Mondial Team Michael
Hi Michael - I don't have any knowledge of the Valeo to help, but as a recent purchaser in Australia it appears from looking at carsales that there are a range of 5 spd cars that seem very good value to me. And out of all the interesting cars i have owned the reaction to this car is amazing and surely these are undervalued at the moment. I know that means you then need to find an enthusiast to buy your car and with its problems but I also know how much projects like the conversion can cost in unforeseen costs. Perhaps you need both! Also the other thought i had is that interstate car transport can be quite cheap if you look around and don't need it done to a specific time frame. I say that because if you can find an expert in another state that really does know your model then it may be economic to transport it. Do you mind me asking what state you are in? If ever i can do anything for you in Adelaide let me know. I can ask around regarding the SDI and Valeo program if you like. Happy to PM my phone number and email. Best of luck though, must be very frustrating having that in your garage and unable to use!
Hi Michael, Just for now, let's pretend that your Valeo T car is simply an investment in some very promising stock. We know it's promising because over the last 18 months, the numbers have been gaining strength at a very rapid rate. While you're waiting to find the proper doctor for your car, her value is increasing. Believe me, at some point you'll be directed to the individual(s) that can sort out the problem. I would bet a body part that nothing is "broken". You've got a very rare bird in hand. Don't let your initial frustration cause you to let go. Cheers & best of luck, Hank
