Cable new ticker reports the passing of The Eagles co-founder at age 67. No other details. Just the other day, I found a pair of ticket stubs from their "Farewell 1" tour, dated 5/14/2003. Weren't they still touring? Farewell 5? Two hours plus of greatest hits, one after another!

I heard on the news this morning the cause of death was a combination of complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia. Regardless of why, it is a true loss for Eagles fans and for music as a whole. I was lucky enough to attend their "Hell Freezes Over" show back in '94 at Rice Stadium two days before my 30th b-day, a sad day indeed.

it is amazing to hear the news stations playing a tribute song going to and coming back from commercials. every song is a greatest hits type thing. very sad and as remy said...they are all leaving us. this leaves me so hollow and makes mortality very real and front and center:(

live life to the fullest. enjoy great music and keep these greats in our hearts and souls.

Wherever you choose to believe they are, there's a hell of a band waiting.

Great talent and a long career. RIP.

Hell Freezes Over was one of the best concerts I have ever been to, musically they were fantastic.

Very sad, really liked his work with the Eagles.

I remember in the concert back in '94 the first solo song they did was one of Henley's, probably The End of the Innocence, can't remember. What I do remember was feeling mixed emotions because while I like several of Henley's solo songs, I knew then that Frey's solo stuff was upcoming. Was "treated" to a 12 minute rendition of Smuggler's Blues. Last time I ever listened to that song in its entirety.

I Think it was a good thing that the band, as a whole, recognized the solo efforts of each member, the fan base, and fit them into the set during that tour. Personally I will take "End of the Innocence" over "Smugglers Blues" any day but that is just me.

If anyone lived in St Louis in 1987, the Cardinals were one of the best teams in baseball. Only two years removed from the I-44 World Series, these were the days of Jack Clark knocking homeruns and Ozzie Smith in his prime. Later played the Twins in the '87 World Series.

Frey's song The Heat Is On was used to promo the Cardinals that year, and between radio ads and countless TV commercials for the teams I must have heard that song at least 500 times that summer. I can't hear that song today without thinking about the Cards of that era.

If you haven't seen it, I strongly recommend the 3 DVD set "The History of the Eagles." Epic.

RIP!!! The History of the Eagles was on Showtime a few months back. Very interesting watch. Way back in 84, I was 12 and watching Miami Vice. Frey was in the episode Smugglers Blues, song also featured in that episode. Became a fan of the solo stuff and also started listening to the Eagles.

I remember seeing the Eagles as the opening act for Jethro Tull at the Seattle Center. When would that have been, 1972? Wasn't a particularly good show, as I vaguely recall. Don't think I had ever heard of them at the time. Nothing but "Take It Easy".
