Countach, the ultimate supercar

Yes no 0148 is still in Japan and using original LP400 engine.
IIRC Tamiya in the 80s and Kyosho and De Agostini scanned that Japanese car for their model.

I think Joe Sackey have some information regarding the mythical Wolf 5.0 engine whereabouts.

 

Actually, 4.8 engine, and its in 1121002.

 

What is everyone doing for window cranks these days? The original ones always end up stripped out (junk plastic Fiat cranks).

Can the originals be fixed?
Can replacements be found (I've had no luck)
Maybe a non original that fits (gotta get my 2 inches of air flow, originality be damned)

 

Hardly able to find new ones, since the donor car, the Fiat Argenta must have been produced with same or even lower numbers than the CT.

Of course you can fix everything, what normally breaks are the gear teeth , I'm sure one can produce an insert even in brass instead of plastic.

I have one left because I had to replace one in Mimran QV.

 

These Fiat 132/Argenta window winders are rare things, but they do pop up occasionally on EBay Original Lamborghini Countach / Fiat 132 / Fiat Argenta window winders - New! and when they do you have to be fast or they're gone.

I'd recommend fixing what you have as Raymond suggests

That is great News, when I was looking for one a few years ago, we needed about 2 years to track down that the handle is from the Argenta, then it was impossible to find one.
Looks like a lot of People are cleaning their stock.

Hi guys, thanks for the info on 0148. So would I be correct in thinking that any earlier countach engine (4.0, 4.8, 5.0) would look visually identical? The only changes being internal. Thanks.

 

Can anyone confirm that this really is 1120094? I thought it had just recently been painted Argento!

Lamborghini Countach Periscopo For Sale (1975) on Car And Classic UK [C701548]

 

The Car & Classic UK Ad states "In 2014 in association with Furlonger, Carrera Sport undertook a full nut and bolt restoration to concorse standard for the new owner".

Perhaps the new owner requested the current non-original color scheme.

The Ad goes on to state "Everything has been either replaced or rebuilt, this Countach Periscopo has to be considered one of the best examples in existence today".

Besides the color scheme, there are many details that have been finished to non-original specification, such as the polished/chromed (?) overflow tank, the unpainted pipes, and the gloss-finished air-boxes etc. Unlike the non-original livery, these can be rectified without too much trouble.

A nice LP400, as they all are, but perhaps I can be forgiven for thinking that the original Blu Tahiti would have been even nicer, and more appropriate considering the restoration expense, and current values.

However, as with all restorations, it comes down to whatever the current owner wants.

Agreed. Better than rotting away in some field or barn, and better that it is being enjoyed from someone who loves it than shuffled around like a poker chip between people who steer the market for greed and not enthusiasm. (I'm a capitalist, but hate how the market has become)

 

I found an original set a while back on the bay.

Every once in a while, you do see them, but check on ebay.it not on the US side of things.

The ones that are one my car one is slightly stripped but usable.

Yes indeed. Even the interior appears to have been changed...

 

to recognize them, the 4.0 liter engine has 2 distributors Vs 1 for the 4.7 engine (5000S cars)

some 4000 have been converted to single distributor so it is more difficult to spot them

Hope you are well.

"Countaches were delivered with both painted black and unpainted pipes" is a pretty broad statement, spanning 16 years of production and at least 5 different variants!

Here is what I know: all Countach variants left the factory with the pipes and overflow tank finished in satin black. The only variant that had unpainted pipes were the 25th Anniversary (see below, both Downdraft and FI versions).

However.

The paint application of the overflow tank and the pipes in the earlier variant was the first thing to begin to disintegrate in the engine bay, and therefore many earlier Countachs understandably had the pipes refinished unpainted to solve this problem. Without studying a library of images of the cars when they were new, it is easy to see how some might make the erroneous & general statement that some Countachs had the pipes unpainted by the factory. It is my belief that this applied only to the 25th Anniversario.
