I've got a slow drip leak from somewhere in front of the pumpkin. transparent reddish oily. Brake/clutch fluid good. I'd like to check the rear end fluid and top off if needed. This is a F1 and that level is fine. Is there a dip stick, fill spout farther down in the back of the rear of the engine. How do you all access this if it is where I need to check. I'm taking the car into Sphere in Houston. car is 99 355 f1 with 13k miles. tHanks very much!

Could be seals in the throw out bearing

red fluid in that area with an F1 car is F1 hydraulic clutch fluid. Your TO bearing is to blame

Thanks. Mark at Sphere Motorsports phone diagnosis is clutch seal (s). I was under the impression that clutch fluid was DOT4 from the front reservoir. What levels would you suggest checking? Thanks again. I want to be able to drive the 45 miles into Houston so I want to top everything off

Clutch for a manual 6 speed is DOT 4 brake fluid from the front reservoir. For an F1, the clutch is hydraulically controlled by the F1 pump in the back, with its own reservoir right over the left hand side of the transmission. That is why you see red fluid.

Mine is being buttoned up from this procedure right now. Triple seals and throwout bearing (have them do both while they have it open).

While they are in there, and if it hasn't already been done, do yourself a favor and have them replace the throwout bearing with the updated Hill's Engineering unit (available from Ricambi). It costs $580, but is still less expensive than the OEM unit while being better engineered (and includes all the necessary seals).

I've seen two OEM slave cylinders blowout on other cars, so it's worth the peace of mind while they have it apart.
