Only 2012+ have the 7 year maintenance. Warranty is still only 3 years. The 2012+ coupes also have improved handling and transmission software.

Well your 997tt is 850 hp, so I think a bit unfair speed comparison lol. The 650s of course will feel faster because of the higher torque from the turbos. The 458 as far as driving, just delivers a brilliant road experience. I would take the 458 over the 650. Why not try and get your hands on a speciale?

Whatever you get, just don't get turbo. This level is about driving fun, not speed. If speed is all you want, you can upsize your 911TT to get 1,500 hp. It's just $50,000 some more with warranty.

I agree its about the fun and not outright speed. And the 458 looks, sounds and drives sick. The one thing that makes me scared of Ferrari is the mileage sensitivity. Perhaps its from the old days of engine out service I don't know. But I don't want to feel subconsciously guilty for putting 5-7k miles per hear on her. Any of you experiencing such feelings?

Any feedback on the mileage guilt question above? I know the 430 began to address this with better maintenance intervals and non-engine out service. But has it become as acceptable to have 15-25k miles on a 458 like say a Gallardo or presumably a 3 year old Huracan.

I went and test drove the 650s today. Brilliant car. Ive driven a 458. Frankly I cant decide between the two. With the 458, you have pedigree- but the 650s drives better. Problem is where are the prices of 650s heading? Have they dropped as much as they are going to or will they continue?

More important question is can anyone recommend a lift for the garage? I need to get one installed before I purchase my car as Ive run out of garage bays. Time to go vertical.

McLaren's seem to loose money way to easy for my liking and the 650s does not seem to be an exception. I was offered a almost brand new one a couple of weeks ago with barely 900 miles on the clock for 80k under MSRP - Thats scary and sounds just like the 12C saga when that was first launched. Personally I have never found any other car other then Ferrari that truly makes me feel alive when I drive it, its not about the power or even the speed.. Its how it makes you feel.

Same for me. 80k off a barely used car. I don't know how much more prices will slide on that car and the 458 prices seem to be holding steady. So the question becomes do you get a smoking deal on a barely used 650 or buy a 458 and not worry about the rapid depreciation. Decisions decisions.

I've had both and it's hard to choose. Both very different . One is very fast , agile and visceral. The other is a complete monster but doesn't sound as good, has some lag and resale values are completely unknown. I'd say the 458 as a whole and complete package is still the better car but not by much...I'd ask what you will be doing with the car, how long will you keep it, is there a Mclaren dealer near you, how important is resale etc. I love them both but again there can be only one winner ( unless you buy both ).

I would state the following regarding negatives
    Ferrari:
Too many around , not as unique or rare
    Radio just ok
Older model and technology 5 plus years old
Hmm can't think of many other negatives ( ok ok no key fob , lol)
    It's old news , 488 almost out

    Mclaren:
    Electronics not very good
Brakes good but squeak more than 458
    Resale values totally unknown
    Turbo lag
    Not as visceral
Doesn't sound as good ( still sounds pretty good with sport exhaust, however)
Difficult to service -not many dealers
Not as beautiful from every angle as Ferrari (subjective)
Don't lose a key (real expensive and PIA to replace )
Not as nimble and fun to drive but still great

I have both a ferrari dealer and Mclaren desler less than 5 miles from my house. I'm drawn to the Mclaren as its more rare but a ferrari is a ferrari. Resale is important but it's not the only thing. Both cars are going to go down. 458 will drop big time starting in the winter as 488s come out. Mclaren - well we all know. At least with a Mclaren, you can get a nice discount right now and with 2016s coming, there may be a few good deals around. I'm about to move into a new home. Need to get a lift put in first, then I'll keep my eye out for a great deal and frankly I think both are great cars, just differnt as was stated.

If resale is even remotely a factor, Ferrari wins hands down.

Why is a "discount" on a mclaren you believe will continue to lose value faster a "deal?"

I'd rather pay 2x the price now knowing I can sell it for close to what I paid than get a discount only to still lose money.

Now, past that financials are not the only factor and should only really be a tie breaker.

Except FF and Cali T. Next 488 will have the same resale problem.

And this is based on the fact its a turbo. You hate turbos, we get it. But the 488 is an exceptional car. I guarantee the 488 will not havr that problem at all.

Nice looking huracan, is that lowered?. I have been thinking of getting one myself. Very good prices on used low mileage 2015s. Msrp 275-289 but able to get it for 210-215k under 5,000 miles.

Nice car. Certainly depreciation on Lambo is big. Only way to go is buy used or maybe new if you can get a heavy dealer markdown (I did the latter). I drove the bull once and sold after a year. Wasn't for me but I still think they are beautiful.

Drove it once ? That's it. Did you test drive it first? Hahaha. Guess you have plenty other choices.
