On my 1600 mile down draft there 2 small stickers on each of the outside mirrors. On the right a "C". On the left a "D". These stickers designate what exactly?

When did the design of the engine cover change? The early cars seem to have additional vents running down the side of the hood. My 87 car does not.

    MY 1987.

As you can see, the venting either side is a bit of an intricate piece, a carryover in fact on all hoods used on all the variants since 1978.

Perhaps the change came about simply because they simply wanted to simplify the manufacturing process.

i do not like SS exhausts on countach so much
to me they sound a bit too hi pitched and so a bit "out of place"

mild steel, as in period for me :)

and the mild steel last LONG as the one on this DD was in the car since years when the pic was taken

of course is all personal preference

Sorry its not my car, the car in the picture i posted is a German DD that took part at the 50th event. The picture that Joe posted was probably taken by Kåre who stood next to me at that day.

Yes, i have heard about Lasse. He has some fantastic cars in his collection, mostly Porsche.
But this Red/Black88 1/2 was his car i belive.

Makes sense, he delivered a white/red 88 1/2 to the customer who traded inn the 86 dd wich i drove, nice guy ,italian living in Göthenborg,Sweden, told me he drove it down to Italy several times, (it had 37k km 22k miles in less than 3years)also the red /black car on your picture,or similar was at the dealership at that same time, good memories, long time ago, funny part is the Countach i ended up with 18years later looks identical in colors to the 86 i drove that day.

Please contact Paul directly @ QS, ask for the Super Sport unit we developed.

My unit has not inconsiderable development costs in it being the first one, and I fear the total investment is not something most would even consider.

Emilio, you are right, the SS units out there do not have the same bassy deep sound as the MS units do. This is precisely why we came up with a muffler system with hollowed internals with only perforated inner tubes to replicate the deep sound. The fact remains, the SS unit will last forever, and MS system will eventually corrode, hence the move to SS headers & exhaust.

    Lambodriver,

Check out the difference between these 2 hoods, look along the sides.

The first one has the smooth non-vented sides introduced for MY 87 onwards.

Best I can do for images right now.

    You're welcome.

Now I have a little more time: here you can see the side-vents that have adorned the hoods of all Countach variants from 1978 to 1986

This image properly illustrates the same side-vents as applied to the hoods of 1985 & 1986 Downdrafts

I am guessing that was when they move from aluminum to Carbon Fiber?

Downdraft never had aluminum engine lids. Mix of Kevlar and carbon with fiberglass resins. It is actually the first time a road car had any composite body parts. Same goes for the front hood lid. I'm guessing it was cheaper to make without the side vents.
