I can hear an old war plane buzzing around my neighbourhood. Great sound!

Sorry, it was a bit esoteric.

It's a line out of Top Gun.

Maverick had a history of "buzzing the tower and one Admiral's daughter."

Caught up with my cousin yesterday - he's a Qantas captain. Asked him if he'd been up to anything interesting recently, he said "I had to ferry an engine to Joburg". Turns out he was the pilot for this flight. He had no idea that Qantas had made the youtube clip.

He said that Qantas has the 747's with the extra bracket because there are no freighters in Aus that can carry an engine in the hold and the cost of chartering an Ilyushin or similar is prohibitive.

Awesome! He was pretty internet famous amongst aviation nerds for a while there. Lots of people (including me, and my poor wife) standing around in the sun at the end of the runway waiting to take his photo on the way out of Perth, too. He'll have a good story to tell for quite some time :)

IIRC South African have the same thing on their aircraft for much the same reason, but don't think many others do - I guess it's pretty easy to get hold of an engine in Asia, Europe or North America (and a freighter big enough to fit it in!).

5th PODs were common years ago and is only used when there isn't a spare at the Station.
Airline companies "Pool" parts at larger stations and these days with companies leasing engines on a "power by the hour" there are engines positioned at the larger stations by the lease company.

They're Dornier Alpha Jets. Like most countries other than the USA, the French Air Force's team uses trainers as their display aircraft.

This was a new one, and perhaps a sign of things to come?

Coming back into Adelaide today from Mildura, at top of descent we were warned that a drone had "gone rogue" in the Adelaide CBD and was last seen in line with about a 3 mile final for RWY 23 at an altitude of about 300ft.
ie. NOT a good place for something to be buzzing around on its own.

We were told it had a max altitude of around 1000ft and according to the endurance of the battery it should have already run out by the time we got there, but the warning was on the YPAD ATIS for at least the next two hours.

I wonder where it fell in the end?!

There are some serious rules in relation to the use from what I've seen and proximity to airports was one of them

Yeah I suspect the people whom were flying it might be in a bit of strife.

Apparently it was launched from Hindley St, so the mind boggles as to what they were trying to film...

They're not actually my strip clubs (unfortunately), but yes.

No doubt they are counting down the days to your return next year.
