Basically can't import a GTO (or any other "typical" production auto) into the US until she is 25 years old. There are several prior threads on this issue. A US based company attempted to import ROW GTO's (among other cars) into the USA but Ferrari NA opposed same. The only GTO that will come into the US (besides US spec cars) will be other North American GTO's that actually satisfy US rules and regulations (ie. Canadian GTO's). The ROW GTO's are materially different from the US spec GTO's but after 25 years the rules/regs. are inapplicable. Thats a very brief synopsis and I'm sure others will correct me if I'm wrong on any point.

Stephen- Not true. Where did you get this information? Pretty much all the late model Ferraris are world cars and can be brought up to US standards by an authorized conversion house. Lots of costs involved, but technically not that difficult to do.

FNA lost their lawsuit to prevent gray market Ferraris from being imported and converted.

Maybe we are talking about 2 different things. You are referencing "late model" F cars and I'm taking about the 599 GTO. I'm also referencing JK Technologies petition to the US DOT/NHTSA to import ROW GTO's (not North American ie. Canadian) into the US and FNA's written opposition with respect to it. Regardless of what you have heard, there will be no importation of ROW GTO's (again non-North American) as the changes needed to make them US legal just can't be performed in a manner that would make the importation financially practicable. Sure, in theory any car can be converted to US spec., but if the conversion cost is in the 6 figure range then importation is potentially financially unsound. With respect to all the changes need to be mage to the GTO to be US spec compliant apparently the cost is prohibitive. Why ? I strongly suggest you take a look at the JK Technologies petition and FNA written opposition to see the full gamut of differences between the US and ROW GTO's. You are a technician and will understand the change/mods required much better than I do BUT the FNA letter makes clear that the mods required are potentially radical. So unless the US DOT has approved JK's petition to import ROW GTO's into the US I think your comments are limited to older F cars that that while not 25 years old are much more easily converted to US spec than the GTO. I'd pull up the FNA letter and JK petition documents and post same but I'm clueless as to how to do that.

I might be a bit biased .... but I have to go with the 2nd GTO as its just much sexier with the full carbon side skirts as a complement to the carbon shields, carbon wheel caps, carbon gas cap, etc.

I think that is just the valve open as the GTO already has straight pipes.

While I bought my GTO 2nd hand and never had the opportunity to spec her, it still, to this day, never ceases to amaze me how many truly utterly spectacular derivations exist of the GTO color/option scheme. Whether special colored carbon on mirrors, spoilers, interior goodies or triple layer livery stripes. From a simple nero scud seat with alacantra to all leather creme/red daytona sport seats with inserts. When the GTO was introduced in 2010 (as a 2011 model) she definitely brought forth all of the unique flavors from the Tifosi spectrum around the World. Thereafter Speciale owners enhanced the desire to spec in a unique manner and I think the TDF owners are going hog wild (forgive the American characterization) in creating the ultimate iteration of the Tifosi fantasy car. I can't help but feel a tremendous sense of desire in wanting to spec a TDF in the exact unique manner that only I would want (no allocation for me). Its all about wanting to FEEL special and having your special brand of passion reflected in your ultra custom steed. Its what makes Ferrari so damn special.

Speccing a tdf would be a full expression of the cultivated and unique passion/desire/perspective/taste all mixed in the one experience.

I like NART Blue with a triple giallo racing livery, yellow calipers, black rims, ALL blue carbon goodies, etc. Get me a TDF allocation and I'll put some real effort into that query :)
