Coolant tank, airboxes seem to be an incorrect finish even to the untrained eye...?

There have been several tales about 5L engines with Wolf's Countach.

    Here's the truth:

#1120006 (white) - Wolf's first Countach LP400 (with regular 3929cc engine) - crashed and rebuilt into chassis #1120007 circa 1975-1976 (no idea if the engine has been replaced).

#1120148 (red) - Wolf's second Countach, special order with lots of improvements (exterior and interior) plus a highly tuned 4,4 L engine (447 hp) - I'm now in touch with the current owner to check if that original engine is still in the car nowadays.

#1120202 (blue) - Wolf's third Countach, similar to the previous red one, with more modifications including a unique ("factory owned") 4879cc engine (matching n°1120202) - sold in 1978 with a standard 3929cc engine.

#1121002 (dark blue) - Wolf's fourth Countach, the first "production LP400S" with the previous 4,879L engine n°1120202 transfered into it. - Now in Japan, still with this special engine.

Actually, the standard 3,9L and the specials 4,4L and 4,8L do show some little differences. If you wish, I can scan you a photo of the original engine of #1120148 from 1975.

    Thanks for the clarification Victor.

I agree with this, based on what little Walter told me from what he remembered.

FWIW, my favorite WW Countach is 1121002, still with the special engine.

Interestingly, looking at my notes from when I interviewed WW years ago, here is an interesting fun fact:

The Lamborghini Countach is what lead Walter Wolf into Formula 1 racing.

He said, he was unhappy with the handling of his LP400, and somebody suggested he contact Giampaolo Dallara. He did, and not only did GD help improve the Countach, but he referred WW to Frank Williams, and the rest, as they say, is history. A couple years later he won 3 F1 races in his first full season as an owner in F1 (beating Enzo Ferrari in the process), an F1 record that stands to this day.

Here is a fun picture of WW and an early Range Rover circa 1977, registered in Ticino, Switzerland, as many of his cars were.

Well I found those window cranks but the seller won't send them to the US. Would anyone in Europe be willing to receive them and forward them to me? I'll pay all shipping of course. Send me a PM if you can help. Thanks all!

Thanks Victor, that is some fantastic information you have given here. If you would it would be great to see a photo of the original engine. I could then compare it to the arty magazine photos deagostini put in the build magazines, and my built engine.

    Thanks

The saga continues on my window cranks. A generous soul in the UK offered to receive them for me, but now I'm finding out the seller will only ship within Italy.

Any italians want to help out?
