    Hi Darius

I wanted to get in touch with some news that I thought could make a great story for LUX or GQ.

On 5 February at Retromobile 2016, French auction house Artcurial is set to break the world record for the most expensive car ever sold with one of the most iconic cars in the history of motor racing : the 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti (chassis 0674) which is expected to fetch €28 - €32 million. The highest price paid for a classic car at auction currently stands at $38.1M – for a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO sold by Bonhams in 2014.

Built in 1957, the Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti (chassis 0674) boasts an incredible provenance. It was first driven by Peter Collins and Maurice Trintignant in the 1957 Sebring 12 Hours, then by Wolfgang von Trips in the Mille Miglia in May of that year, where it finished in second place.
Mike Hawthorn (who would become Formula 1 champion in 1958) drove the car in the 24 Heures du Mans, setting the first lap record in the history of the event of over 200km/h.
The car has many more prestigious races to its name including the Swedish Grand Prix and Venezuela Grand Prix in 1957, as well as the Cuba Grand Prix, which it won at the hands of racing legend Sir Stirling Moss in 1958.

In 1970, the Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti (chassis 0674) was bought by astute collector Pierre Bardinon, who during the second half of the twentieth century amassed around fifty factory Ferrari comprising the most iconic models in the history of the brand.
"Both a Work of Art and the Queen of Speed, this represents the elixir of the exceptional: beauty, rarity, racing success, history, authenticity and provenance", said Matthieu Lamoure, Director of Artcurial Motorcars.

Other highlights of the sale will include:
    1963 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta - the last example built (estimate €9M – €12M / $10M - $13.2M)
    Ex- Gianni Agnelli 1986 Ferrari Testarossa Spider (estimate €680 000 – €900 000 / $750 000 - $1M)
    1962 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series 2, Ex-King of Morocco, from the Adrien Maeght collection (estimate : 1.4 –1.8 M€ / 1.5 – 1.9 M$)
    1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona (estimate : 750 000 – 900 000 € / 800 000 – 950 000$)

A Record Year for Artcurial Motorcars
2015 has been a breakthrough year for Artcurial Motorcars, confirming its position as market leader in Collectors’ Car sales in Continental Europe. Organising official sales at the Salon Retromobile, Le Mans Classic and the Automobiles sur les Champs-Élysées series of auctions, the annual sales total of this department led by Matthieu Lamoure has increased from 6 M€ / 6,9 M$ in 2009 to 71 M€ / 78 M$ in 2015.
