The yellow one was sold to Vice by Rocco. Not great for a connaisseur like him . Paul while at it, can you post the size of the opening of the correct one.
I feel badly for you with all you've had to endure to get to this point Vince. At the very least that's going to be a fine 308 when all is done.
+1. This must have been incredibly frustrating to deal with. I'm shocked to find out the shop who treated you this way. Rocco had quite the reputation here. I'm glad to see the car and you are finally getting some quality service. The car is going to be wonderful when finished. Enjoy it in good health.
Its a shame so many love to pack on the mud Glad newman is doing proper metal work something I truely love. Right behind seeing color go on a body.
Metal work just about finished. Because we found small rust spots anywhere we removed paint its safest to remove the rest of the paint which im sure will reveal more. Now is the time to find and correct that and whatever else we find. The antenna hole is one area we'll find an issue and the hood isnt straight. The extra rust is there on all of them. When I did my car, my quote was to fix the doors and behind the front wheels, but I knew there would be more....an extra $900 in labor and materials to fix all the small spots on the car.
The car was in primer for about 4 years and not climate controlled to my knowledge. We found small rust spots on metal that had been ground with a sanding disk meaning it wasn't there since new (if thats what you were implying), It was caused in the last 4-7 years. The other 308's I've stripped didn't have these same issues other than the typical 308 lower body rust holes and bad repairs.
Looks like a super job. I would assume based on the amount of work the owner won't be able to afford to sell it. Great job , keep up the pics
Minor update. Rocker detail and area around center channel finished as is the mount lip for the inner fender. Bottom pic shows the rocker as an assembly is offset inwards vs the quarter bringing back the outer step but also the inner step that was lost when the rocker was replaced not too long ago. Copied from an original 77 I have here, made a template from it. I still can't believe how much filler was in it. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes. The fender heel has the step then the rocker has a flat spot along the door opening. Not sure why the 308's had a larger than normal gap at the bottom with the door lip hanging freely (unlike a BB) but they do. Ferrari added a foam lip seal to the door lip to fill the gap. Hard to see from this angle but the step is as thick as the door bottom then the rocker flat spot adds to the door bottom gap. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
How thick was that Bondo layer? I can't imagine how it wouldn't start stress cracking straight through the paint nearly right away once the car started getting regular use.
Thanks, Paul. My car's off having new rockers made on both sides, so I couldn't check...77 too. Appreciate those pics.
