I bought my '06 6MT F430 Spider at the end of October, 2011. The stick-shift was probably 50% of the reason for the purchase. At that time, although the selling dealer made a point of prominently mentioning the stick in the online ad, there didn't appear to be any special interest in non-F1-equipped Ferraris. The car had been listed on e-Bay Motors, and I don't recall even seeing any bids. I called the dealer directly after the auction had ended. I'm rather startled at the way things have changed in the ensuing four-plus years. I'm also very glad that I bought when I did, because I haven't seen a comparably-equipped Spider offered for sale since I bought mine. Fred

Are you all sure the top of that instrument cluster isn't a tortoise shell?

RM has released the catalog and updated the listing for this yellow manual 430 spider with an estimate. $375,000 - $450,000!

    Thoughts?

This should be very interesting to watch as I think it is the first gated 430 to hit a major auction.

Interesting -no one has commented that the car was ordered by race driver Tom Peck, a known Ferraristi. Quite a collection. Estimate is 400k. It's growing on me.

You never know, maybe potential bidders will be scared off by the crazy alligator interior and somebody will get a great deal. Being a no reserve auction somebody will be buying it!

    A 512 TR sold for $220k yesterday. So did a 512 bbi for $300k. Aperta for $1.1M.

Only Ferrari that didn't sell was a Bianco Fuji GTO, high bid of 730k.

Too bad this car wasn't a coupe! I would have loved to have seen the croc headliner.

Not sure what to make of the sale price. They had it listed for sale for 530k a few months ago and the sales estimate was very optimistic too (375k - 450k), given that it sold below the low estimate. If you subtract 150k worth of alligator, I guess it's in line with the market. As someone else said - this doesn't really help dictate the 430 6-speed market since it's such a unique car. All I know is I should have bought the red/tan spider for 147k in June. Can't believe things changed so much that fast.

Mark, I know what you mean about the meaning of this sale. 95% of the sales estimates have been high that I have seen. That is the next thing to talk about. If the collector car market is softening or not, but for manually operated cars in general, what does it mean? If a gaudy spider can bring the bucks, I am optimistic for real enthusiast cars. We'll see!

I was sitting in the front row and that car was ridiculous. There were a few Ferrari collectors in the first two rows and we all were like wtf. This is definitely the same kind of odd bewilderment type of result that the manual 599 at Amelia was.
