Push the accelerator down and hold it there until the engine sputters

He probably meant "stutters", as in hits the rev limiter.

I have hit the rev limiter in 5th gear in my F355 (about 158 MPH) and had to shift up to 6th (TWS front straight before T1.)

I think I short shifted at 130 into 5th. It sounded right.

Make sure your wheels have been aligned, the chassis rake set, and the car corner weighed. You don't want the car getting twitchy at the top of 4th and after you get into 5th.

Andy red lined his in 6th at around 192mph, at La Sarthe (iirc). Then again he does have a 355 gearbox in his. ;)

I did say sputters thinking that was the correct word. I am going to start a thread asking the difference between sputters and stutters. I am confused. Maybe they can sticky it.

At least it doesn't "poot.". I traded a 911 for an rx-7 one time and it "pooted."

Sputtering and stumbling actually describe specific behaviors that indicate a problem with the engine (usually a carbureted engine, but still...)
