Are we still on this? "Writing off" is a term for deducting that amount from your taxable income. I don't know of anyone, especially on this site, that thinks "writing off" mean it is free.

So if you pay 200K for your car, and claim it as a deduction then you don't pay taxes on that 200k. You still spent 200k however.

Lol...I've talked to people that are somewhat intelligent and they think when you write something off you write off the entire amount on your taxes....they just don't understand the equation....and even more smart people don't know they're chipping away at that with the Pease Limitation...

With respect to new cars, I've been trying to buy a new V8 Ferrari since the 355 came out. Our local dealer which is now owned by Penske is "not taking any new customers". We're not talking the special cars, just the regular production cars.

That is an exact quote from a salesman named "Lonnie" when I stopped by to see if anything has changed.

So at the end of the day, lots of people who could afford and would like to have an F car, end up buying GT3's, SLS's, McClaren's, and Lamborghinis. I still have my new Ford GT, which has interestingly gone up in value, yet for some reason, they were taking new customers.

At the end of the day, the US dealer network is responsible for the decline in prices because they drive buyers away. They sell a new car every year to their "good customers", the "good customers" give them back to sell used at a premium. Wash, Rinse, Repeat. I have no problem with it as I believe in free markets, but the irrefutable fact is that the US dealer network drives customers to other brands.

Would I would have liked to buy a new 355, 360, 430, 458 or 488, sure, but as Lonnie said,

"Ferrari is not taking any new customers"

Given the options available in the market today, over time, this is a bad business strategy especially if Marchionne is going to expand production.

Tell me about it the good ol boys club.
But I think that's why Marchionne got rid of the boss they had running Ferrari.

But it's still same ole **** with Ferrari stores.
I think Sergio likes to change this mantra....but who knows.

I wonder if that is the same j@ckass that so rudely explained the Ferrari-Facts-of-Life to me. I bought elsewhere and proved him absolutely incorrect. But I digress. ;)

A capital expenditure isn't a "write off". You must depreciate a capital expenditure. Buying a car isn't an "expense". You could lease it and write off the lease payments as business expense.

If you're buying it with post tax earned income dollars then it still ins't a write off as you've already paid tax on that money.

People always want what they can't have. Especially if they are wealthy. This is how it is and will be. That's why they are Ferrari. They only buy other cars because they need something to drive but still keep on looking to Ferrari

That's crazy. Go find another dealer. They say dealers are not supposed to sell if you live within 100 miles of a dealer but if they won't sell you one I would consider a few of the less metropolitan or high volume dealers and maybe speak to the sales manager. A good phone call and and then fly out to meet him face to face with your issue. I bet you would have good luck and they would likely sell you a car but tell you not to take it in for service at your local for 6 months or so.

Negotiate a deal on a used one with the caveat that you get a new car the next time around

Yup, because you forgot that That the stated lease price included sales tax (even from CA)...

So the stated interest is correct..

That's what I found, too. There may be a lot of 458s out there, but they don't seem to be the "same" ones, unless they have high miles or undesired colors or options. The popular colors/well-optioned cars turn over. Less popular color but well-optioned cars like the TdF/beige one I bought, are hard to find. In the months since, I still haven't seen any others that meet my desired combination.

That's not completely right, the 102,000 is a defered payment so the 194,300 is still fully financed and subject to interest (you get a car with a value of 220,000 day one after all; if you put 35,000 and borrow 92,300 there's no way you get anything close to a 220,000 value - you get something with a value of 127,300... which means during the 60 months period you pay interest + capital on 92,300 AND some interest on the missing 92,700, that's why the claimed global rate is lower than in your calculation).

So let me make sure I understand your point: You've wanted to own a Ferrari since the 355 however have not purchased one because you were told you can't buy a new one? I don't disagree that Ferrari dealer practices can seem counter intuitive however it's relatively easy to establish a relationship with a dealer (SF Included) so I'm not sure why you would have missed the experience of owning and driving one of these cars over that. Or perhaps I've inferred your point incorrectly.
