A Ferrari is a refined vehicle - it is not about the quantity but the quality of the sound. Loud for the sake of loudness and attention is just obnoxious... Three, two, one, fire... ;) :)

I have clarified at the outset that my F430 spider is "stock" or "standard" if you prefer,

I read all the posts about the benefits of aftermarket manifolds, I spoke to people, I did all the research then went ahead and purchased AP Racing (same as Fabspeed)

NOBODY BUT NOBODY SAID HOW CRAZY LOAD THE CAR WOULD BECOME!!!!!

The standard F430 sounds amazing, change the headers for anything else other than standard with CATS and your in a volume league of your own as I have found out.

May I say that I am enjoying all your replies, very amusing and informative, so thank you, keep em coming :)

Repairing MkII's is very much an option, look at my pics below, you can see where they always break, you can see the new weld, nowhere near the precat.

Would love to hear a credible reason why I couldn't use these repaired headers with some performance titanium exhaust manifold heat wrap?

I have AP headers and a Tubi exhaust on my 430 spider.

I keep ear plugs in the car!

Some of the 360 guys are removing the pre-cat entrails, re-weld and use with the valves.
I'm planning to do it this spring because I sat in a 360 spider with headers and the noise level was way too uncivilized in town.

Yep! After driving for a while, ears start to ring.

The Tubi was on the car when I bought it. I added the headers preventatively due to the reports of pre-cat fragmentation, etc. I figured it might be a little louder, which seemed like it would be good. It's ridiculously loud, but I love the "sound". I am considering reverting to the stock manifolds, though.

You guys are seriously cracking me up, such an entertaining read, is it really that bad you ask, well.....YES

My wife refuses to get in the Ferrari now, we met as teenagers, me being a teenage boy racer with my much loved rust bucket 1300 Ford RS wish it was with the must have baked bean can exhaust, she feels like she's gone back 25 years!!!!

Well so far we have descriptions of "ridiculous, antisocial, embarrassing, humiliating, ear splitting, uncivilised, illegal, *****bag territory", sure there's more to come, my only concern is that I'm doing myself a real disservice as I will want to sell my AP's once I pull them off haha

I just can't imagine it's that loud through stock mufflers with the valves closed if that's what you're saying you run

Thin walled tubing which is difficult to prep properly. They'll fail again PDQ, probably right next to the repair.

Are you going to the Pheasant on the 4th Feb? I might swing by for a listen :)

It really is once the ECU pops the valves open.

Dave, what about a reinforcement sleeve welded around the area of the repair to further strengthen the runner?

I think I would put on the Capristo brackets when I go back to OEM, this will take all the stress away from the failed manifold pipe area when expanding and contracting through the heat cycles.

Yes I'll be at the Pheasant, I'll bring the 430 if you're coming and the weather is fair, PM me and I'll send u my mobile number, just drop me a text if you go that evening, cheers

Values are standard, don't want them closed all the time, love the two stage exhaust setup, it's what Ferrari wanted the car to be.

Ive got the aftermaket headers with oem cats and muffler on mine. The car sounds **** when valves open just like harley davidson...

Im thinking to get Capristo racing muffler. Anyone had experience? Otherwise will need to go back to oem headers.

I installed a full fab speed set up on a 430 last summer the biggest set they offer, yes ear plugs are defiantly something to consider. Sounds amazing however.

Abyss,I've been offered a Capristo muffler but don't want to throw good money after bad with so much uncertainty, will it reduce the volume? Maybe as it is a superior muffler? But a I doubt it would be enough for me, I think the only way (sadly) is to go back to OEM and keep smoke testing them.
Why oh why can't Ferrari address this once and for all and make a better set of manifolds with the pre cat???

Same set up as on mine, I then went further and replaced the cats with a tubi test pipe.
It's insanely loud and in tunnels it's too much (ear plugs needed!).
I love it when in the mode for driving it properly but it's fatiguing when cruising.
I'm going to try refitting the oem back box and use it with the forza remote valve switch (keep AP manifold and Tubi test pipe) to see if that helps.
Do like the sound of the s line x pipe back box, if that had a valved option I would consider it.

as your running an oem muffler now a capristo muffler will only make the volume worse .....many times over.
save your money and either buy oem headers or re-use your welded oem headers and cover them with a capristo or fabspeed blanket so easy examination is possible.

however I would be inclined to reweld the oem headers and decat them.

of course the concern with the oem headers is the pre cat failing and being ingested into the motor....has anyone read any posts on the volume levels of an oem header being de-cat'd while running oem cats and muffler?

I know someone that is running on a set of OEM's with the cat removed, he reports a very small increase in sound, almost not noticeable, but personally yet to hear it.

If true then whilst the de-cat does increase the volume a little, the massive increase from the aftermarket ones must be down the the substantial increase in manifold tube width, increased flow etc.???

^^This is good to know. I am about to fit challenge headers. Same as stock but no pre-cat. Also where the pre-cat sits is enough room for a bellows to be added for expansion and contraction which fixes the cracking issue. Ferrari did this on the 458.
So Fixing your stock manifolds with a little sound and flow increase and eliminating the cracking issues is easy is easy to achieve.

That's very interesting to hear. I'm leaning towards ripping off the heat shields from my OEM headers and seeing what kind of damage was lurking beneath. Shouldn't be too hard to find a fab shop that can remove the old cats and weld in a placeholder.

Did lots of research on youtube and spoke to Capristo. The Capristo Race valveless muffler is the way to go. It will absorb the harsh noise and reproduce it to high pitch F1 sound.

The OEM muffler and Capriato Twin Sound muffler both have bypss valves means when valves open the gas bypass the muffler thats why it is so loud with aftermarket headers and sounds like a Harley Davidson.

Im going get the Capristo Race system.
