A 250SWB is smaller than a 355, but never mind, he's an expert on a peerless forum :)

The 1979 car is a steel body dry sump car, so the price is about what you'd expect.

Ian is correct, all euro 308 GTB's ( fiberglass and steel body ) had the dry sump engine.

Interesting, I hadn't heard that before although I'm aware that the Swiss market has much tighter rules regarding emissions and noise, but does that go back to the 70's ?

The Swiss certainly don't consider themselves part of Europe - you of all people should know that!

Switzerland introduced emission controls well before the rest of Europe, so it wouldn't surprise me that they got the wet sump donk at that point. 6 million (mostly boring) people - they're a tiny market for Ferrari. Australia later got the Swiss engine when we fell out of step with unleaded fuel countries.

It also wouldn't surprise me if the reason for the wet sump was to make room for the air pump that was needed to clean up unburnt exhaust gases. The dry sump tank sits close to where the air pump is on a US & Aussie car.

Wet sump is cheaper to build of course...
