    Hi all,

I have always wondered what the round blue sticker on the front alloy wheel spoke on a 328 is for. I see it on some cars being auctioned, but never in real life.

Was it only on Euro spec cars, was it only for the delivery and then removed, is it something I should replicate for an originality point for a Concorso display?

Some information in it's significance would be great.

    Cheers

I suspect it was some nature of QA sticker. Sometimes they were there when we received the car, sometimes not.

New US 308's had them as well, or at least some did.

I seem to recall (?) that it has something to do with the test drive of the new car, after it left the production chain, meaning that suspension settings and equilibrium of the wheels was all right.

I thought it had to do with balancing and the valve stem.......maybe?

    Was it factory affixed?

From what I can tell, this little blue sticker was the factory's way of marking that car as "ready" for delivery. When I had my wheels painted many years ago, they had to take it off and I kept it in the car's history file...

Steve Ahlgrim would know. He sold tons of these when they were new.

Somewhere in the "old software" there's a "Blue Dot" thread, it goes on and on......hilarious theories.

My car is pretty low milage and the wheels have never been repainted. The blue sticker is still affixed. I have no idea what it was for, but I have resisted the urge to pull it off.

Just curious, why does anyone care?

If any of you saw one the way they were shipped there was crap stuck all over the car. The blue dot didn't get removed sometimes because neither the detailers at FNA or the dealers themselves were too lazy.

That was pretty much the way the previous thread went, I'm surprised Google did not find it..

    I don't remember that one.

Hell, I never knew anything about any blue dot for 30 years until Mitch and the one on his 84 - which was STILL there just a few years ago (I know you are reading this, Mitch :)).

I never even noticed it on that car in the picture I took and I looked at it a thousand times since June 1984.

Why would anyone care about a tag hanging from a clock. Why would a set of owner's manuals be worth so much? Why does a set of crappy tools or a cheap scissor jack command such outrageous prices? ;)

I could keep going but I'll stop there. :)

    Those actually have a use.

Gold has value, the dirt it is buried in not so much.

When i got my car one of the front wheels had a round blue sticker just like in the pics. I removed it when I gave the car a detailing. Oh well at least I know the wheels have never been refinished.

Yes but in this case the pouch (dirt) that carries the owner's manuals (gold or the useful part) carries much more value in today's market.

So you're ok with $500 clock tags but not blue stickers on tires? Both seem rather inane to me. As for the tools and jacks, I doubt many have ever seen any use, although yes I admit they could be used.

    :)

I bought my car from John Apen. When I was picking it up he was giving me several gifts (something they did back in the day at faf when you bought a car except this was in his garage at his house). One of the things that came with the car was a little brown cardboard box with Ferrari written on it. Apparently some little things were in it from when it was new, something only a dealer would have (he had sold it originally from his dealership back in 84). He said to keep up with it because it was the kind of thing that people love to own when they show their car or enter in a concours. He was almost laughing when he said it and I left wondering if he was being serious or not. Over the past 20 years I have come to believe he was serious. The things people want and pay money for with these cars...

    I still have that box.
