This car looks fantastic in white. Always think of James Bond driving it in the snow with the ski rack.

Well seeing there appears to be a considerable amount of love in this thread for the Esprit, I'll attach a photo of my, rather special Esprit. It was made to order for the great man Colin Chapman himself! Only 11k from new, still original, and the only Guigaro Esprit made with power assisted steering, along with a number of other bespoke specs for Chapman himself. Very likely the last car made especially for him before he died. Very special I think...

I thought the 94+ cars (S4/S4s) were Thomson design (ie similar to the V8).

Special indeed. Is it a dry sump car? I used to own a dry-sump. If it is, I cant imagine where they fitted the power steering pump in. On the dry-sump engines they fitted the A/C compressor where the pump would normally go, on an Eclat or Excel.

Yes it is a dry sump. It was built Feb 1981. Effectively it is similar to Essex models, without the Compomotives(which although looked good, weren't actually that good in quality). But does have the panasonic roof radio. Well they did fit the pump which was an Citroen type pump(I was told) and of course it also has airconditioning.

Bought it from Paul Matty about 5 years ago. Its a well known car in the Esprit circles, although I haven't had the chance to get it to any events though....

That must be the most special Esprit in existence. Can imagine how much that would be worth if it were a Ferrari!

    Esprit values are rising though.

As an owner of a 1994 S4, I concur with the rest of the group. Great car, easy to work on, gets tons of looks only cuz most have never seen one before. Here's mine last summer.

    Hi All,

A lot of great information here. I've been a huge fan of the Esprit since elementary school in the 80s and would love to add one to my collection. I've been following this thread for a year or so now and am finally ready to put together a proper search. I am looking for a Giugiaro styled car. Ideally a JPS edition or unique color S2, but really looking to find the best car I can find. I am not shy about paying up for the right car and not scared off by cars overseas. Any leads would be appreciated and I would be happy to pay a finders fee as well. Any advice on people that specialize in finding / selling these cars would be greatly appreciated as well. I promise to share with you all on fchat once I find the car! Looking forward to the search and your assistance.

    Very best,

    Chris

cnpapa24, have you driven a non-turbo Esprit? If you haven't, let me opine that you will be disappointed. Unless you have a particular desire for an S1 or S2, I would suggest the first fuel injected turbo as where you might want to start your search. Me? S4 all the way!

David, thanks for the feedback. I have driven an turbo S3, but not an earlier car. For me, the purity of styling trumps acceleration / top speed. I find the look of the S2 to be most appealing with the subtle changes from the S1 and speedline wheels, though it is a very close race. I also like the lines of the S3, though not as pure as the earlier variants.

Agreed, Ive owned a 94 S4, an 89 Non Se and much prefer the g bodied car, yes its slower but the styling is hands down more exotic. IMHO

You guys may be right about the styling ... and the earlier car has that ultracool underwater option!
